Out of all the mainline Pokemon games, no it is not a spinoff, Let's Go Pikachu is probably the most underwhelming. It is nice to revisit Kanto for nostalgias sake but the region isn't particularly interesting and for what is more or less a remake, the game had a lot of heavy lifting to do. I cant in good faith say that it succeeded.

First things first. The Pokemon Go mechanic. In this game, instead of fighting wild pokemon battles as per usual you just catch them in a very similar minigame to what its like in, you guessed it, Pokemon Go. This mechanic is a pretty big point of contention among players. Most seem to just straight up hate it for being too different to the regular formula. I wasnt looking forward to this to begin with, but as someone who actually finds Pokemon Go to be a pretty fun time I was glad the series was trying something different. Its a neat little mechanic. I wish it was added in addition to being able to battle wild pokemon instead of instead, but it was a welcome change of pace. I also am glad they decided to stick with roaming pokemon instead of random grass encounters, makes the game feel much less like a chore and Im glad it seems to be a staple of the series moving forward. The other big feature added is pokemon following you around, something we havent seen since HGSS over a decade ago. This game does it.... eh. Somehow Diamond and Pearl did it worse, but your pokemon is gonna constantly despawn and respawn or lag really far behind so it takes away from the coolness of it. The feature is the best part of HGSS in my opinion, and it works a lot better without the 3d graphics. Its nice they tried though, I guess.

Now is usually the part of the review where id be talking about positives but I really just dont have many. It's pokemon. Pokemon will always be a solid lighthearted relaxing experience. But this far into the series lifespan its starting to get stale. Even with a few new changes it still feels as easy and unengaging as many of the other games in the series. The only good thing i have to say is your companion is adorable, and being able to dress them in matching outfits is top tier cuteness. Beyond that, this game just completely failed in capturing my intrigue. I enjoy pokemon as a whole enough that I obviously finished it, but there were very few moments throughout where I was actually enjoying this one. I was so unimpressed by this title I didnt bother nicknaming a single party member besides my Pikachu, lovingly named "Poop". The game also for some reason tried to downgrade the movesets back to the kind of thing youd see in the old games, but... why? theres a reason learnsets have evolved since then. Charizard doesnt learn a stronger fire move than Ember until nearly level 40 when you're already almost done with the game. You'll be relying on TMs a lot, and sucks for you if you dont manage to find one: now you're stuck using shitty moves that only draw out the slow and easy gameplay even longer because you're doing shit damage.

I dont think Let's Go Pikachu is a bad game. Its inoffensive. But its the epitome of the lazily heartless and charmless direction the series seems to be heading. At least Legends: Arceus was a step in the right direction. Holding out hope for Scarlet and Violet.

A remake of Pokémon Yellow that is inferior to the original. You catch Pokémon the same way you do in Go which isn't terrible but isn't as good as catching them the old-fashioned way. The graphics are ugly and the game seemed a bit too easy compared to the original version. Maybe it was Pokémon fatigue but unlike Yellow, I got bored halfway into the game. It eventually got to the point where it felt like a chore to finish it. A bad remake not worth wasting your time with, play the original instead.

traded my broken ps4 that couldn't turn on in for this (shoutout gamestop :| bruh) didn't have high expectations and was blown away. super fun game to just turn your brain off and play. a great introduction to pokemon for people who only played pokemon go. i met a new all time favorite mon (shout out my boi Emerson the Nidoking) i need him in Scarlet stat

Helped me get a Melmetal, which in turn gave me a topic of conversation when talking to the girl in my art class who exclusively drew Eeveelutions.
Thank you, Let's Go Pikachu.

way too easy to be enjoyable. also why do you only support joycons; it's a fucking first party nintendo game

Me and my friend got in a fight over this game.

The first game that made me rage quit because it's too easy. I enjoy easy games, Kirby is one of my favorite franchises and I enjoyed Pokémon X which is a goo goo gaga baby game. However, this game takes it to a whole new level. From the amount I've played no other pokémon is worthy of existing because Pikachu doesn't care. Types do not matter, I encounter a ground-type pokémon and Pikachu simply disagrees. Nothing can stop this monster. Also, catching pokémon sucks, but my main gripe is the nonexistent difficulty. The game looks alright and the music is fine but I just don't see any point of enduring this snooze-fest.

Dumbing down the battling and catching mechanics of the previous games, the Let's Go generation of Pokémon was ultimately disappointing. It was good to rummage through Kanto again and being able to connect the game to Pokémon GO, but the game was too easy for its own good.

Sadly underappreciated within the Pokémon community. While I’m not the biggest fan of the mechanics taken from Go, this game is still a fantastic introduction to the franchise and one I would definitely recommend to newbies.

The visible Pokémon, the inclusion of Jesse and James, and the expanded experience share make it a sufficiently different experience to Red/Blue/Yellow and Leaf Green/Fire Red. And then there’s the graphics and art style. I have no idea why Sword/Shield didn’t adopt the charming visuals of Let’s Go. I also appreciated that I could complete the Pokédex all on my own without needing to trade because of the ability to transfer Pokémon from Go.

Leaf Green is still my go-to for whenever I want to revisit the Kanto region, but if I want a fast and easy playthrough (made possible through experience share), Let’s Go is the one to go for. My partner, who had previously been a Pokémon virgin, completed this game in just a few days and is now open to trying more in the series. I’d love a Johto version of Let’s Go, but that seems extremely unlikely given the success of Legends Arceus and the new mechanics it introduced.

Gostei tanto do jogo a ponto de zera-lo 2 vezes e ainda zerar a versão Let's Go, Eevee! Amei o jogo e super recomendo jogarem essa maravilha!

This is a pretty watered down version of the Pokemon series that integrates Go's mechanics to try and bridge the gap between the mainline and mobile games. For what it's worth, it does the job, albeit not being a super memorable or great game in its own right.

somehow the best looking pokemon game on switch

I absolutely hate the new catching mechanic and broken candy system. Also the terrible decision to not have abilities or newer Pokemon. I'd rather they have not remade gen 1 again.

This game is pretty bare bones and doesn’t do anything to impress, but for some reason I loved it. Nowadays I much prefer the way wild Pokémon are handled in this game compared to previous iterations (I don’t want to battle wild Pokémon anymore). Also shiny hunting was accessible and exciting. I blew through this game and completed the Pokédex in about a week or two. Simple, but enjoyable.

Played this at launch and have done so a few more times since then. Enjoyed the game and love that you can hunt Shiny Pokémon easily in this version of the original Yellow Version. Seeing the Pokémon running in the wild and the animation style was cute and made the world more alive. The catching mechanics in this game are based on Pokémon GO and not the classic games, so all of your team gets EX from multiple catches or trainer battles. You still have 8 gyms and the Elite Four to defeat as you do in the classic games. Plus fighting Team Rocket and even Green in the post game.

Post game also allows you to challenge 153 Master Trainers, each one being a master of one Pokémon (including Mew, Meltan, and Melmetal). I beat a handful of these but ended up stopping due to boredom of grinding.

I have another run of this going that I haven't touched in a bit, but its a fun game to play once in a while.

Playing this game after Sword/Shield and Arceus, I have to admit that this is the most beautiful and charming Pokemon game to date. And the nostalgia hit me quite hard.

But I feel like this being the "more approachable" version of Pokemon for newcomers ain't it. It's disappointing that new Pokemon games are so over simplified and constantly handholding you that even unborn children could play them. I realize it caters to newcomers and that it's "a game for children", but I guess that also means it’s catered to make a more boring experience.

Playing this for nostalgia sake was kinda fun and relaxing at times but it was overall a mediocre experience. Also, the pokeball toss gimmick is atrocious.

A great work for remember the start of my pokemon travels on my childhood 25 years later, but it's fun to play it and the new lore incorporations or npc's characterizations is really good

overall just a really easy version of kanto where you have to catch pokemon to train rather than actually train

one thing that especially confuses me is why have repel when you can just move away from the pokemon on the map it kinda kills the meaning of repel

Simplifies a childrens' game with bad motion controls, less content than a GBA game, validates annoying as shit Eevee fans, but also randomly has the best distribution Kanto will ever have.

A remake of Pokemon red that keeps no charm from the original, and is generally boring. music is alright

"We don't need another Yellow remake!"

Speak for yourself, I loved travelling with my squeak squeak. My round bububu. Little angry mouse squishy.

I know this one was made for kids, but it was still too baby-level for me.

This one was hard to get through, gen 8 as a whole was just bad

It’s nothing special at all, and I hate how poorly the throwing mechanic works (I find it quite fun when it does work), but it’s just a very, very solid experience through and through. Not much more to it.

Wonderful journey back to Kanto. It's a fantastic remake that takes a very tired Blue/Red/Yellow and makes it much more user friendly. Being able to ride an Arcanine is all I ever wanted.

As usual, Pikachu is adorable and that's about it.

Baby's first Pokémon game.

If you're experienced with the rest of the series, this one's a snoozefest. It's Pokémon Yellow with a new coat of paint for the most part, with some - but not all - of the modern mechanics built in, along with new additions to make the ride as easy as possible for newcomers.

One of my main gripes with this one is that a lot of it kind of just feels phoned in? You'd expect a modern remake of Kanto to go all out, like ORAS did - remixed story, tons of new features, oozing style from decades of developing the series...but nah. It's just a Pokémon game.

I like Pokémon and Pokémon go and grew up with gen 1 in the 90s! So I enjoyed it. I enjoyed seeing the Pokémon on the overworld. I enjoyed the emphasis on catching the same tiptoe in a row for more rewards and stat boost. I had a lot of fun replaying Horus gen 1 again with some added changes. The music is good. I like the graphics and had a lot of fun. I also went in with low expectations. There is hardly any end game content and I would’ve loved to see fire red content included.
