Actually a fairly decent Pokémon game, even if it's Go and Yellow fused together.

(SwSh is better, come at me natdexers)

Played this at launch and have done so a few more times since then. Enjoyed the game and love that you can hunt Shiny Pokémon easily in this version of the original Yellow Version. Seeing the Pokémon running in the wild and the animation style was cute and made the world more alive. The catching mechanics in this game are based on Pokémon GO and not the classic games, so all of your team gets EX from multiple catches or trainer battles. You still have 8 gyms and the Elite Four to defeat as you do in the classic games. Plus fighting Team Rocket and even Green in the post game.

Post game also allows you to challenge 153 Master Trainers, each one being a master of one Pokémon (including Mew, Meltan, and Melmetal). I beat a handful of these but ended up stopping due to boredom of grinding.

I have another run of this going that I haven't touched in a bit, but its a fun game to play once in a while.

somehow the best looking pokemon game on switch

its a fine enough remake of gen 1. a bit simple and way too easy at times but it is pokemon. the game is still charming as hell and i would rather play this than sword or shield not gonna lie

Wonderful journey back to Kanto. It's a fantastic remake that takes a very tired Blue/Red/Yellow and makes it much more user friendly. Being able to ride an Arcanine is all I ever wanted.

Better than sword and shield

It was fun until it wasn’t.

I think it was treated a little too harshly. It was fun, it was cool to see Kanto completely different, and it had that feel from yellow and heartgold of your poekmon being your companion. I wasnt mad about it

I mean it's good and people liked it but i wasnt pleased with the catching only mechanic on wild pokemon and we didnt need a remake of the first gen. I had fun but had no intention of completing it after the main campaign. solid 3 maybe 3.5

LGPE reduce the depth of play without effectively contributing to greater accessibility, which has always been a typical factor of the Pokémon series.
The capture itself does not break the game, but goes to boredom after a while and could join the fight against the wild rather than replace it, and so the removal of the skill and attribution of the objects leaves a bit of a bitter taste in the mouth. Also because many choices that evolve the first original chapter have been introduced without hesitation, but some have not.

I like Pokémon and Pokémon go and grew up with gen 1 in the 90s! So I enjoyed it. I enjoyed seeing the Pokémon on the overworld. I enjoyed the emphasis on catching the same tiptoe in a row for more rewards and stat boost. I had a lot of fun replaying Horus gen 1 again with some added changes. The music is good. I like the graphics and had a lot of fun. I also went in with low expectations. There is hardly any end game content and I would’ve loved to see fire red content included.

Baby's first Pokémon game.

If you're experienced with the rest of the series, this one's a snoozefest. It's Pokémon Yellow with a new coat of paint for the most part, with some - but not all - of the modern mechanics built in, along with new additions to make the ride as easy as possible for newcomers.

One of my main gripes with this one is that a lot of it kind of just feels phoned in? You'd expect a modern remake of Kanto to go all out, like ORAS did - remixed story, tons of new features, oozing style from decades of developing the series...but nah. It's just a Pokémon game.

I love mediocre products

it may be iffy but at least I got to play GEN1

Replay, first since 2018. Really good but somewhat dull but kinda really good??? I think it’s difficult to remake Gen 1 nowadays (saying that as someone who played the OGs as a kid) because they’re highly simplistic compared to where the franchise has gone since then. These remakes’ greatest strength is they quicken the pacing somewhat via EXP Share+overworld random encounters+streamlining the catching process via GO mechanics. The Pokemon following is really nice too, and on a Switch OLED I think Let’s Go is a pretty game as well (makes S/V look extra embarassing in some ways by comparison).

On the other hand, it’s Gen 1, so it’s a pretty small/linear map, not many Pokemon (in some ways a strength though) and the trainer encounters get somewhat dull. The forced motion controls are also a bit much. Still, nice nostalgia trip. Didn’t mind it!

Review in progress:
Somehow even worse than the 3D Pokémon games that came before it.

We didn't need another Kanto remake. Kanto is still boring as hell. There's no difficulty whatsoever. The simplified battle mechanics are awful. Most of the combat depth has been taken out. The story is worse than the original.

There are forced motion controls. There's a $60 accessory that only works with this game and Mew is locked behind it. The graphics are underwhelming. Load times when entering/exiting a building are noticeably long. The remixed soundtrack is forgettable. Only having access to the original 151 Pokémon sucks.

Orrendo. La meccanica di cattura per poco non mi ha fatto rompere i joycon, da switch lite è ancora più brutto e la grafica chibi mi ha fatto pena. Punto a favore? Puoi vestirti abbinato a Pikachu.

The Gyro aiming fucking sucks ...................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................... how the fuck is this the top-selling video game franchise.

Visually, I wish Sw/Sh looked as good as this game.

Remember wild Pokemon battles? Same.

Strips away just about everything that's fun about these games to appeal to the lowest-common denominator of Pokémon fans who would prefer dressing up their Pikachu to battling wild Pokémon. Holds your hand at every possible instance despite the fact that these games were the most simple things ever to begin with. Somehow runs poorly despite not being graphically-intensive in the least.

Even if you took out all the Go-inspired elements of the Let's Go games, I'd still have a problem with their existence as a second remake of the Generation I games was absolutely unnecessary. This was little more than a cashgrab and a poor first-impression for Game Freak's first console Pokémon outing.

I liked replaying Gen I but I can't stand that pokeball toss gimmick.

Game is good overall but the catching mechanics get old very quickly and is by far the easiest Pokémon game of all time. Not to say Pokémon should be hard but this one is absurdly easy. If you want a laid back pretty to look at easy playthrough of the Kanto region, play this title

Not even bad but it's so underwhelming and mediocre that it's kinda worse than bad.
