I remember reading some time ago that Minesweeper and Solitaire were deliberately chosen as the preinstalled games on early Windows computers because they would teach users important skills for interacting with a mouse - Minesweeper for left/right clicking and Solitaire for dragging and dropping.
Wii Sports played that exact role for the Wii and the Wiimote. It enabled players to get used to the new hardware quickly, and more importantly - made the process fun. It's obviously not as polished as more recent games, but it's actually still good fun to play today and that's all I can realistically expect from it.

The best pack-in game you could ever ask for. Each sport does a fantastic job at utilizing the Wii's motion controls and it is just a blast to play this with friends. I will never forget all the memories I've had playing this game with family and friends. The mii customization also enhances the experience as you could make Miis of pretty much anything which can definitely lead to some goofy shenanigans. To sum it up, Wii Sports is a must-have assuming it didn't already come with your Wii.
I used to work in a nursing home that had a wii bowling league, and a team of 5 ladies who we actually recorded and submitted to a national tournament.
So shout out to Dot and her perfect game, and to the wonderful team in 2013, you all did great!
Seriously, though. I could completely leave the other sports on here - the bowling is pretty much a perfect little party game and is such an incredible experience for people with handicaps that no longer allow them to play real physical sports or other games anymore. If you can move an arm and a finger, you can still play this (and if you can't, I hope there is someone with you who can help.)

pretty good game
personally I only really cared about Bowling and Golf, but I can't deny that Baseball and Boxing are solid too (I don't care about tennis as a sport sorry lol). also this was the game that introduced Matt to the world, probably one of Nintendo's greatest characters of all time, maybe even THE greatest. anyway, I spent a lot of time playing this game in the past, very fun memories.
btw I like how the golf courses came from the NES Golf game, that was a neat touch

I'll never peak in life as much as the time I beat my whole family at bowling when I was 6 years old.
It's Wii Sports, there's not much to say, really, while since then some technical demos have proven to be more fun and compact (Astro's playroom comes to mind) few have proved to be as replayable , consistent and just plain fun as this one.
It's just a fun collection of sports games with the core idea of them being as simple as possible, and sometimes that kind of dumb fun it's all you need. Bowling is the clear winner of the bunch, with tennis and golf also pretty good inclusions, but baseball was never a home run of a game for me (pun very much intended), and boxing just feels janky, sometimes the fun type of janky, but it can just devolve into shaking the controller like a madman, which none of the other games do.
It's nothing more than a pretty fun little time spender, but the fact it's even something a bit remarkable being a technical demo and a pack in title is really, REALLY shocking when you stop and think about it.
Still, it's not the best technical demo, it's not the best pack in title, it just sits in a very comfortable spot being both things, and it rocks at what it does.

One of the few times I ever got my mom to play a game with me and it was boxing on Wii Sports...it was quite memorable(and hilarious).
Very good selection of sport games that are easy to come back to, even now. Personal Favorites were Golf, Bowling, and Boxing. They were simple but pretty deep and fun to master.
But that memory is what holds this game up so high till this day, great game that anyone can pick up and play!

Easily the best pack-in game and "here's what our hardware can do" showcase that exists. Historically, I'm the kind of person who needs carrots on sticks to chase, things to unlock, etc. but I put so many hours into this game just playing it for fun. So many good memories of playing with friends and family. Truly, the Wii was a phenomenon and Wii Sports played a large part in that.
