Hard as balls but very satisfying to beat.
The clock tower almost drove me insane, but after beating it and reaching the final level that had an epic version of Simon's theme it felt incredible.

I'm not joking when i say that's one of the most satisfying moments i had while playing a game, all my motivation and hope returning to my body after recognizing the melody in the first few seconds was just... special.

Eu prefiro..... Eu prefiro o redesign do Simon...

So this game is a "remake" (really feels like an enhanced port) of Castlevania for the Sharp X68000. Because the gameplay is so similar, I'll recap some of what I said there
it's a good remake that I like more than its SNES sibling, with the multidirectional whip being not as busted and a fair compromise (you gotta jump first and you can't whip upwards) and the new areas being really creative and Werewolf being one of my favorite fights in the series.

What's different here in the Arrange Mode are a few minor things, like new sprites for Simon and Dracula, but also the addition of Difficulty options to make this game more fair. The original Difficulty is still there on Hard Mode, but the new Normal Mode goes from the original's 5/4 hits before you die to 8/5 or 6 hits, and in addition on all difficulties Simon no longer bounces back upon taking a hit which cuts down on cheap deaths and most notably makes Level 2's water raft segment a lot easier. While I think it makes damage tanking too viable in certain spots, that's only because I beat the original game first, and really this mode is much fairer.

Also new is the music, arrangements, which are really good. Not much else to say there. But what is else to say is the last big new thing, which is a Time Attack Mode. Castlevania is usually a game thats difficulty more so rewards slow and meticulous play, but a mode that encourages you to go as quick as you can really changes your approach which definitely made it really welcoming!

This game is a remake of a remake, one of the earliest games to be so I believe, and is most likely to be the version of Castlevania 1 I'd recommend!

chicotada em vampiro vagabundo faz TCCCCHHHHRAAAA

This was actually a great remake of castlevania this game deserves more attention than it gets.

the soundtrack makes me cum but everything else is okay

This is basically a collection of what is basically an alternative version of the classic Castlevania 1 (so basically a remake) of a japanese computer version.
I beat the "remaster" (so the 2001) version, but by far of what I've played they are identical on the gameplay/momentum/etc.
It's ok still, but not as great as the og king.

Pseudo-remake of Castlevania 1. For the most part, I'd say it's the definitive version of it. It's surprisingly difficult, even by Castlevania standards, but if you look hard enough, there's always something to help you out (Floor chicken).

The graphics and music were unmatched for Castlevania up to this point. Glad to have played it.

Each moment of this game is like a vertical slice of itself. Incredible game-per-second rate.

Really cool remake but mostly works as just its own unique CV game with cool multiple versions built in.

Absolutely baller soundtrack, really cool presentation and atmosphere in some sections as well. Has some problems but it's a fun time.

Probably one of the weirdest Castlevanias out there, which also makes it one of the most ineresting to play.
It's as much of a classicvania as a classicvania can be: linear, hard, and simple, just kill everything in your way, and be careful. I beat the arranged mode, since Simon femboy and the tech/electronic soundtrack (Simon's Theme and The Tower of Dolls 👌) were what drove me to play this, but I experimented a bit with the classic mode.
There's not much else to say, it is a very solid and competent remake of the first mission of our boy Simon, great both at its graphics and gameplay, I just almost had a rage quit on the medusa boss fight lol.

Not sure if me playing tons of other CVs before this had any effect, but I could swear Chronicles was a lot harder!

Played it all the time on my modchipped PS1 lmao, I think it was my first Classicvania. And not a bad one to start with!

Chronicles isn't exactly a remake of CV1 per se; more like, a "best of Simon Belmont" sorta deal, with elements from CV1 and CV4 showing up here. You got stages straight from 1, one stage from 4, and some original ones.

Simon can whip in 5 directions, sadly missing 3 angles from CV4, but at least we have VERTICAL KNOCKBACK! GLORY BE! This alone makes Chronicles a much smoother experience compared to a lot of its more celebrated brothers.
That said, the werelady on the Clock Tower stage kicked my ASS to oblivion. Dracula should turn more girls into wolves cause that fight was probably the most fast paced non-final boss so far in this retrospective.

Originally a X6800 game, Chronicles may not look as sharp as SotN, but it has a very gritty and spooky atmosphere. It even has some really cool visual effects, like the flowery field that crumbles, revealing that it was actually a painting all along! It's nothing to scoff at.

The arranged soundtrack is NUTS though, god damn. Disco Vampire Killer, Thrashard in The Cave, Wicked Child, Moon Fight(there it is again!) and the Load BGM, all amazing tunes. They were INSPIRED arranging these tracks, I'll tell you what.

Chronicles is a good time! Tough as usual, but surprisingly fair.

Now I know why people like this series so much.
Spectacular Boss Fights and an even better soundtrack.

Really fun game, red haired Simon is cool as fuck and I enjoyed this a lot. Would like to say that I think the clock tower is fucking annoying lol, she wolf is such a hater tier boss character chucking shit at me.

Games honestly not as hard as I thought it'd be either, which was nice. Dracula was cool as fuck to fight. Good game.

Joguei a versão Arranged.

Fairly short and has that NES times gameplay where if you don't know what to do you will die the first time in each level with the exception of thebeginning levels.

Melhor visual do Simão 5/5

this is one of those games i probably couldve beaten without save states but just for the sake of not really feeling like repeating some annoying areas i just ended up using them. overall though, pretty solid classicvania. definitely not the best but not bad either. i was honestly expecting it to just be a castlevania 1 remake entirely and in some areas it definitely was, especially level 1, but as i kept playing it felt fresh enough and i had a pretty enjoyable time. just the same good classicvania gameplay with a little bit of polish, reminds me a lot of super castlevania 4 but not as freeing in terms of things like whip swinging. some parts were pretty not fun to play through, mainly the clock tower level and the one level with the section where you have to climb up and fight all the little toy enemies, and there are definitely some other things that sucked but they were pretty minor so they didnt come to memory right away. also the ost went kinda crazy on this one?? like castlevania is obviously known for good music but this one was just different because it didnt really feel like a castlevania ost, more like a later megaman/megaman x entry ost, but still really really good. i could probably see myself going back and listening to some of these tracks

It's the same game as the Sharp remake, and I'm still confused as to why this exists, and even more confused why it was ported to PS1, of all games to all consoles I still couldn't say. It does do wonders for the playability of the game though, it feels different with some new sprites and some new music, as well as lacking knockback. With those additions alone (and I do mean alone, they're all that's here) I'd put this slightly above the original.
