Franchises I want to try at least once in my Life

List created on April 16th 2024

I'm not the type of guy to play several games of the same franchise. I usually just play one game in a series and then move on to different games.
There are many popular franchises I've never tried, mainly due to a lack of free time, but I've always been somewhat interested in them.

This is a really tough choice.
When I listen to people, it's like half of the FF games are a must-play, so uh... I guess I'd lean more towards FF6 for 2D, and FF7 or FF10 for 3D.
I'm mostly curious about Earthbound.
There doesn't seem to be a consensus on which game in this series is the best.
So I'd probably go with the most recent one, a.k.a Monster Hunter Rise.
Same thought process as Monster Hunter, so Pikmin 4.
I'm not sure.
Either Super Metroid which is wildly considered as the best Metroid game, or Metroid Dread which is the most recent one.
Symphony of the Night.
Tropical Freeze.
There are over 20 Mega Man games, so I have absolutely no idea... Any suggestions?
Sonic Mania.
I initially wanted to play Arkham Knight only. But people keep insisting that I should play all 3 games in order, because the story is important and follows up after each game.

I still don't know if I should listen to them. 🤔
I'd probably go with Black Flag. It's definitely the most praised game in the series.
I don't know for this franchise.
Rising Revengeance looks very fun, but it seems quite different from the mainline MGS games. Correct me if I'm wrong.
If not Rising Revengeance, then idk.
I don't know how well the two first GoW games aged. The more recent ones seem interesting aswell. So I'm not sure... I take suggestions!
Resident Evil 4 Remake looks very appealing!

Final Fantasy: The three options you listed are very good.
Metroid: Yeah, you should definitely start with Super Metroid.
Mega Man: You can try Mega Man 2, and then jump to Mega Man X.
Assassin's Creed: The second entry is also a very good option.

Mother 3 is a much better game than 2 (Earthbound).

If you try Monster Hunter I'd recommend Gen Ultimate for an accessible peak classic experience. Everyone says MH is all about the co-op, and obviously World and Rise are the easiest to get friends to play, but they're such a departure from the charm of the classic games that I find myself really biased against them if anything between MH3U and MHGU are an option.
As far as Metal Gear goes, I think everyone should play MGS3 at least once, it's the perfect standalone experience that really captures all the appeal of the series mechanically and emotionally.

For Mother: Mother 3 is quite a departure from both Earhbound Zero/Mother and Earthbound/Mother 2. But for me is an emotional rollercoaster and is just more fun to play than Mother and Mother 2.

Metal Gear: Metal Gear Solid: The first one is good enough to play nowdays. The rest of the franchise will open up with new mechanics from the start.

Mega Man: Can't say if it's necessary to start from the first one. Won't miss much if you play the classics, but my advice is to start with 3/4/5/6, then jump to the X series and if, just if want to know beyond; Play the Zero Saga.

Sonic: Start with the classics. It's not important to follow an order, most of the games are like separated universes. A total mess, but that makes each entry unique.
