This Game is Good, Actually!
This is far from a scientific list, this is games (which I plan to play) which were originally generally disliked by critics or gamers but which now are seen in a more positive light, specifically on backloggd. This doesnt necessarily mean that they have a high average review, its more so if the most liked reviews are all somewhat recent and have high scores and praise and/or "this game is a misunderstood masterpiece" type. Purely vibes based, I can't prove this is the case its mostly just an excuse to play "controversial" games. Ill make another list for the opposite phenomenon. Also this isnt a subtweet at anyone, Im not saying youre a contrarian for liking them or whatever, dont take anything here too seriously. Ill play this after Im finished with my "Summer List" so in a while, to say the least

Ive already played this, and my take is that its : ok. Not as great as its champions say but nowhere near as bad as its "worst game ever" initial reaction. Its an annoying cover shooter with some cool aesthetics and characters which almost become interesting to watch but not really
I love this game, but its gone through a cycle of being hated and loved. Personally I think it gets a lot of undue hate
Probably the poster child for hated games that are now fiercely defended. Well see if its kino or cringe.
Edit: Finally having played it for a few hours : its ok. The combat is good, but the decision to make the party so separated, the insane amount of proper nouns(though the actual plot is simple enough to understand in the 5hours I played it) and the general lack of chemistry from the cast makes it imo not worth playing unless you're a fan of the series.

A lot of 7th gen on this list, anyways im pretty sure this fits the bill
Edit : well, consider me filtered. The swinging is good but its a 7th gen game so the pc port had a weird 60fps bug or something and frequently broke the game at times. Also at the risk of being told skill issue : the game ramps up way too fucking quick for me. Im not great at these sorts of games admittedly but jesus christ I was playing on like the easiest difficulty and like 2 levels in the game expected me to have mastered the combat and swinging system, having at least 2 snipers aiming their crosshairs at me at all times during the level. Sorry, but whatever good qualities the game may have it clearly doesnt want me to see them. I can see why this was poorly received.

Lukewarm, but apparently it was good when the bugs got fixed or the bugs were blown out of proportion or something

The game looks gorgeous and theres more of an emphasis on parkour (though it looks sillier now when you have seemingly magnetic hands) but the story and missions just bore me to death. Also extra annoying now when running from guards they will shoot you with their muskets with 0 regard for all the civillians around you, no wonder the third estate revolted!

It was disliked by people on release for being a radical departure for the series but those people were being unfair - is the popular narrative now.

@MPK92 people were really questioning this choice on the discord server, good to know im not crazy, I swear its getting a positive reevaluation
I've also seen positive reinforcement for Unity lately and the fan consensus seems to have shifted to Syndicate being the one where the series' shark jump was established. I'm gonna find out myself when I drag myself into an AssCreed marathon at some point...

@LordDarias I'm already familiar with most entries up to and including Black Flag, so likely chance I can truncate the time sink. Not to mention I'm only planning to go up to Syndicate cause I have no drive to check out the "new" framework Origins created

Problem with Nuts & Bolts is that it's a freaking spinoff, but people try to look at it as a main entry in the series.

Just to balance out the other people here, I'll be the one to tell you that AC Unity sucks, and it especially sucked on release. I was a huge AC fan who swore off the series forever after buying Unity day 1 and playing through it. It was so buggy that soft-locking a mission and needing to restart from the beginning or reboot the game wasn't uncommon, and I fell through the floor to my death like once per hour. I've heard it got fixed up but haven't played it again so I can't confirm. Even ignoring the bugs though I didn't like it. The main character is unlikable and the story barely had anything to even do with the Assassins and Templars, instead focusing on the main character's whiny angst problems. And then the present-day story is an absolute joke that makes literally zero attempt to make any developments whatsoever, which was really disappointing to me as one of the few people who cared about that aspect of the games. No shade to people who like it but it's one of the worst games I've ever finished.
Bionic Commando is fun as hell when you don't got a bitch in your ear telling you about wife arms.
