A game that defined 2022 and re-sparked my love of video games. Elden Ring reminded me why I fell in love with video games and presented me with a fun, challenging experience while allowing me to experiment with different ideas until something worked. Endgame areas are tuned a bit weird, but it is still and excellent experience.

Any potential I have to talk shit on this game is taken away when every time I pick it up I play it for a week straight, then put it down again never to thought it again for a span of 6 months, to 2 years.

It really is an addiction I relapse to whenever I need a fix, it just comes in different time lapses.

I wrote a longer review, but here is my main point:

Any fun or enjoyment that I got out of “Forspoken” was immediately swatted away due to outdated game design choices, poor PC optimization, and a main character that is annoying and unlikable.

I wrote a longer review, but here is the main idea of it:

“Bloodborne” proved to me that FromSoftware’s games aren’t popular because of their difficulty. It is because the developers truly realize and commit to their artistic vision with each game they make, with this game being their crown jewel.

https://usishield.com/39208/features/bloodborne-is-a-masterpiece-in-gameplay-worldbuilding-and-horror/

There is no way to properly rate this game as it is one of the games of all time.

I will say one thing for certain, it is good.

I wrote a longer review, but here are my general thoughts:

The legacy of “Dark Souls” gets muddled as the years go on. Everyone knows about the game’s difficulty, but that’s it. Even though the game is difficult, the amount of depth and creativity in the world and level designs as well as the satisfaction of overcoming incredible challenges is the true legacy of “Dark Souls.”

https://usishield.com/39106/showcase/the-complex-legacy-of-dark-souls/

The best ending to a franchise I have seen in gaming.

Dark Souls 3 is a beautiful conclusion to this iconic franchise. It continues the story from the first game while respectfully referencing the first two games, making the world feel coherent even when it is unrecognizable from the first two games.
The gameplay is so good and feels so good to play compared to the first two games. The best aspect is the boss fights, being the most consistently good in the franchise.

This is a great game. The only reason it isn't a perfect score is that the first half of the game kinda stinks. The area design is so unexciting and annoying to play through compared to the later game areas. If the first half of the game was as great as the 2nd, this game would be near perfect.

Besides that, I would strongly recommend this game to those who have never played a Souls game before as I believe this is the best starting point to really get into the franchise.

It is an episode from the show that you actively take part in. It is also one of the better turn-based RPGs that I have played.

To quote my man Bricky,

"Uncharted 1 is a necessary evil."

This game was necessary to introduce the world to the Uncharted franchise. However, it really has not aged well in its gameplay as it plays like ASS. I can give it a pass for the most part as it is an enjoyable experience, most of the time.

I wrote a longer review of this game, but here is the main point of it:

The boundary-pushing legacy of “The Last of Us” is its dedication to characters over the plot. This approach has influenced other fantastic games released in the past decade, such as “God of War (2018),” “Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End” and “Red Dead Redemption 2.” This new age of gaming that mixes story and gameplay is a form of art that can only be experienced by playing video games, and it wouldn’t be this way without “The Last of Us.”

I wrote a longer review, but here is my general thoughts:

“Dead Space” (2023) may not be high art, but is the perfected version of a horror classic that has stood the test of time and held up against its competition. This is one of the best remakes I’ve experienced as it keeps the soul of the original game but improves it so much that it stands apart from its predecessor. The graphics updates are nice and substantial, but pales in comparison to the gameplay, story and setting updates that really push this remake above others.

https://usishield.com/38829/features/dead-space-2023-modernizes-a-survival-horror-classic/

This game has not aged well at all. If any game needs a remake, this is a prime contender.
Any engagement I could have had was ruined by how bad the controls are. Worse part, if you play on pc, the game doesn't properly tell you the controls, so you have to mash buttons until something works. It is frustrating and the only reason you would want to play this game is to be updated on the story for AC2.

The New Order walked so DOOM (2016) could run. This game is balls to the wall action with a surprisingly investing story to boot. I did not expect this to be as dark as it is, but I am glad it goes the places it goes to.
I wish that there were more incentives to push the enemy as you are forced to hide behind cover a lot due to the amount of damage you take, especially on higher difficulties, but only in select encounters did it really hinder my experience.

It is good, but I forgot why.

In all seriousness, this is a good game. It just isn't as memorable as the others, which is a bummer as if this banged, it could have spawned more off shoots for the franchise, but what we got was good.
