Terribly underrated and even a little too hated from what I've seen on Steam. It's not perfect but none of the game's flaws are real deal breakers unless you have Beth Wilder's ever dwindling level of patience. Gamers whine about everything these days and can't simply have fun anymore without constantly feeling the need to overly scrutinize every single pixel they come across.

I mean, come on... you can manipulate time in this game (!!!), it has some genuinely impressive level designs, you get a fun little TV Show with Lance Reddick and Aidan Gillen (who unintentionally turns out to be kind of hilarious as Paul) and while the writing fluctuates and strays a bit from "peak Remedy" it has some really great moments. Which are especially present in the details, aka. all those scattered notes, emails and documents.

Some of you guys just need to take a step back and approach games with a little more whimsy again because that is what gaming is essentially all about! :)

(oh you died to the boss 50 times on hard? stop crying on the internet, thats a skill issue. get good. hop on a souls game and then we'll talk. nerd lmfaooo)

Max Payne was one of those characters I always had a strong familiarity with but I’ve never actually gotten around to playing the series which is a bummer. I really missed out as a kid (my loss is my mom’s luck though because I know she would’ve needed to help me with those blood mazes).

Aside from the peculiar controller movement that takes some getting used to, the game still holds up incredibly well, and I had a blast with it even 23 years later. A true classic.

grinning like an idiot whenever i’m playing this but i’ll reserve my yapping for my actual review that’ll hopefully be way in the future because i don’t want this game to end any time soon but!

i just came here to say that yötön yö is an absolute banger. this whole game is. i’m truly grateful to witness this piece of art. kiitos sam. it’s 4 am and i’m shitting my pants more often than i’d like to admit but i’m having the time of my life. top 3 easily.

sorry for rambling, thanks for reading. have a good start into the new week

Didn’t think I’d ever miss my flashlight this much.

This expansion had a few excellent moments of suspense with great atmosphere but all that was sadly overshadowed by uninspired level design. The only thing that saved it and which kept me going were the Alan Wake crossover elements.

The final cinematic did give me slight goosebumps, though. Can’t even lie. Hyped for AW2, I’m finally ready.

Pretty fun DLC with fresh story bits and new levels to dive into. There’s quite a difficulty spike in comparison to the base game but you’ll quickly adapt and might even welcome the challenge.

As for the story, this expansion works like a sneak peek into the sequel’s conflict. It’s not a must if the lore didn’t catch your attention too much, but they did a solid job expanding on it and weaving everything together.

First Platinum Trophy of the year 🤠

Fired up my 13-year old laptop that turns off if you just breathe at it wrong with the intention of playing this and, as you can see, it ran the game well enough (the few insane frame drops and freezes aside).

I can't directly compare the gameplay since I only played the original with a controller but I appreciate the fact that they gave us a bit more variety this time by adding a bunch of new enemies and weapons. There were some interesting narrative choices though that felt very "early 2010s" and not in a good way. They don’t ruin the experience but they felt a bit out of place. You probably know what I mean if you played it.

Still, it was a fun expansion that elaborated more on Mr. Scratch and Alan's current state in the series and if you're a fan of the first game then you'll most likely enjoy this one as well.

(Also, bonus points for more Ilkka content.)

Remedy is slowly turning into my favorite video game company. I’m glad that I only really started to get into their stuff now because the wait for more would’ve been excruciating.

Control clicked with me like almost no other game did, and I’m not talking about the gameplay. Which is fun as well, don’t get me wrong — but the story, and how it’s primarily being told through files, calls and presentations, is stealing the show. I was genuinely excited to find another piece of the puzzle whenever that little square icon popped up in a room.

My only complaint is that the conclusion felt somewhat rushed but I can live with that knowing there’s a sequel on the way.

Less combat focused than the previous part of the DLC but all the more creative. It also offers some pretty great set pieces and interactions.

If you’re still on the fence about playing, the DLCs are not exactly life-changing, but I still wouldn’t wanna miss out on them before playing AW2.

Had a lot of fun with this one because of the more challenging fights.

This special doesn’t add too much to the narrative but the glimpse we get is still worth checking out and I’d never complain about more AW content.

I know I’m being a little generous with my rating but this game is exactly my cup of tea… or should I say coffee?

The setting, the vibe, the story, the characters and the music are just amazing to me. I especially love how creative this game gets in its way of storytelling.

The only thing that it’s lacking in is gameplay and I understand that it might impact someone’s experience with the game as a whole, but I thoroughly enjoyed it despite its repetitiveness. The focus for me was the story and exploration and they definitely delivered on that end.

I’m going to let this one sink in for a while and check out the DLCs and American Nightmare, but I already have Alan Wake II installed and I’m very excited to see what awaits me there.

My personal FotY (Fumble of the Year).

Genuinely enjoying the multiplayer and new Warzone but that doesn’t justify any of it.

This was such a crazy experience for me because I decided to play this campaign with a mouse and keyboard on Veteran. That may not sound too dramatic, but as a console peasant this was wild to me. Had a blast.

Love what they’re doing with these reboots, and I’m excited to do it all over again in MW III.

Cleaned my room and found my copy of this, meant to play just a few levels for the sake of nostalgia but then I realised my ankle-biter version didn’t finish the last world for some reason.

Can’t tell whether I just forgot and/or lost motivation but I do hope I wasn’t stuck because I just beat all of it in one quick sweep … I say, judgingly, 11 years later.

Amazing. Absolutely not what I expected and I mean that as a compliment. Went in completely blind and it was one of the greatest gaming experiences I had in a while.

People need to stop sleeping on indie games!
