2022 the kiseki year

Only game I dislike here is Florence, hoping it'll stay that way

too lazy to update the review I posted last year but it's really outdated, it's only this year that I ended up reading every main story and event story, I'm now caught up and as a whole, it's pretty freaking great, even outside of Niigo

Dead End Aegis: Gaiden
Not an especially noteworthy "prequel" but it's a fun time regardless.

Good way of introducing some of the best characters from the main game while making me less scared about how painful of a read the main game could be.

Lisette impressed me by being so freaking dumb that she ended up becoming insanely cool thanks to her lack of any intelligence whatsoever.

Hitman
Hitman
I honestly expected to love this so much more than I actually did considering stealth games were literally the definition of pure, unadulterated fun for me back when I was a teenager.

Being as stealthy and merciful as I possibly could in games like Dishonored, Deus Ex: Human Revolution or Arkham City was so damn enjoyable that I couldn't get enough of that feeling and ended up replaying their levels/campaigns a lot just to try and outdo myself even if it was only better by a small margin.

I really loved trying different approaches there but in Hitman, I didn't feel any drive to replay these missions to do a less shoddy job, I just moved onto the next mission instead.

It's still pretty damn satisfying to pull off the objectives undetected and abuse the AI by doing the most audacious assassinations in front of them but it's not enough to push me to do the whole thing all over again.

The opportunities lead to the most entertaining situations by far but it unfortunately feels like I'm just following a script instead of doing the deed myself.

Bright Memory: Infinite
Bright Memory: Infinite
While I originally only tried it out for the shiny graphics in order to see if it would put my new PC on its knees, I still had fun with the game itself somehow...

The story is nonsensical and predictable at the same time, which is an odd mix but it clearly wasn't the focus anyway.

Enough different weapons and mechanics to play around with for 2 hours and it thankfully knows where to stop before it became stale.

The alternate outfits don't exist. The alternate outfits don't exist. The alternate outfits don't exist.

Opus: Echo of Starsong
Opus: Echo of Starsong
While this had a genuinely beautiful ending that was well-worth the journey, I'm not as enthusiastic about the journey itself.

They started the story very well, making me feel engaged in it right away and excited for whatever was to come but once the ship gameplay takes a prominent place, that excitement quickly wore off.

It's not a bad concept on paper but the locations rarely felt distinct from each other with similar pieces of lore often rehashed throughout, which was already disappointing to me since I was really curious about the world at first.

The small events have the same problem with their novelty quickly disappearing entirely and it barely feels like there's any stakes so I just started to indifferently roll the dice without caring much about the "consequences" every time.

That indifference also extended to the characters because even if I think some of them can be relatable at times and portray compelling themes I like seeing, it was hard to get attached and really invested in their relationships when they don't have that many meaningful interactions with each other.

The over-reliance on repeated flashbacks to make me care didn't exactly help, most of that repetition could have been avoided to instead show more moments of the characters genuinely caring for each other, that would have made the emotional moments hit harder.

I complain a lot but months later, I still listen to the ending song and manage to feel something so I can't deny that it worked on me at some extent.

Amatsutsumi
Amatsutsumi
Mostly disappointed by this because with so many intriguing ideas and concepts, it should have been so much better than it actually is.

Almost everything seems to play out in the safest and therefore most boring way possible so it's a constant cycle of being let down every time they show off something interesting and then decide to not use that to its advantage.

The few shining beacons of hope are ruined mostly because Amatsutsumi fails at picking the right priorities.

It's not a good moege because there's a huge lack of renewal in interactions between the characters, the romance feels artificial with how non-committal the MC is and how repetitive the banter can be but it's not a good nakige either because the drama is often laughably bad and when it isn't, it gets heavily sidelined for more soulless interactions and stupidly horny H-scenes.

I can't really judge whether it is a good nukige since I quickly lost the patience needed to get through these H-scenes with the first one...

It's genuinely a shame because I enjoyed the beginning a lot but everything went downhill afterwards.

Steins;Gate x Sanrio Characters: Chance Encounter of the Goldig Party
Steins;Gate x Sanrio Characters: Chance Encounter of the Goldig Party
Wow, Hello Kitty really ended up becoming the most well written Steins;Gate character, I can only kneel....

More seriously, considering how short it is and as a huge Steins;Gate simp, it was worth reading just for the sheer goofiness of that crossover and I'd always want to spend more time following these cringelords anyway.

39

Florence
Florence
Utterly meaningless, it's genuinely hard to find this kind of vapid story that literally has nothing of value to convey nowadays...

On one hand, I'm glad I got to remember how uninteresting games could be since I can actually appreciate every other game more but on the other hand, I don't really want to waste any more time by thinking about it.
