I'd have given this a 3.5 out of 5 since, the first 3 levels are honestly really fun and well designed, some of the better ones for 8-bit sonic games, but blue marine zone man... that drags the game down entirely, and the last level is very mediocre as well.

Looking forward to the re-make being made that was showcased during SAGE Christmas!

An incredibly comfy game with wonderful visuals and music, its atmosphere brings you right back to the late 90s with very few of the shortcomings associated with early 3D games, I like it a lot!

It's unfortunate that the bosses are so frustrating tho, they bring the experience down quite a bit.

Quite easily one of the best sonic games ever created, fan-game or official! The level design, the character abilities, the wonderful music and aesthetics, it's all so wonderfully hand-crafted and makes me so grateful for this game's existence!

The only reason I'm giving it a 4.5 instead of full marks is the disappointing lack of outstanding custom levels compared to 2.1, but the vanilla campaign is so amazing that I honestly can't complain too much.

The only good Pokemon in my opinion.

The pixel art and music are pure bliss, the low-poly 3D aspects make it look wonderfully unique, the mature story, the wonderful and creative designs (yes, I said it), and the world being a joy to explore!

The difficulty is unfortunately lacking, like most Pokemon games, but I had fun with it nonetheless.

A perfectly good remake of the original adventure, heavily down-graded in terms of sound due to it existing on the GBA.

I'd have loved to see a re-release of this on the DS with improved music!

This is a game that, I'll admit, if you played it like you would a handlheld game, as in... short spurts as you're riding the bus/train, etc, then it becomes a perfectly good 7/10 that'll last you a very long time.

If you played it like me though, beating it over a weekend and playing very long sessions at a time... you'll become quickly tired of it, with how drawn-out the level design feels especially, and how non-varied the gameplay is, and considering the fact the game is only in english via a translation patch, thus mostly requiring an emulator to play... that's most likely how you'll end up playing it.

It is saved by the cute artstyle and portraits, and the various character interactions are wonderful too, it's just... a very repetitive game.

In the same way that Sonic Rush is the definition of a Dimps game... this is what people think about when they actually say "Dimps level design".

You explored where you shouldn't have? Death pit.

You fell from a singular top path that you've maintained the entire level? Death pit.

You dared to, go fast, without learning the level like it's on your exam tomorrow? Death pit.

This has to be some of the worst level design I've ever experienced in a game, the only reason I'm not giving this game half a star is that, its spritework is really wonderful and it managed to do the impossible in making the GBA's sound-chip (or lack thereof) actually sound kinda good.

I was genuinely dreading playing this game after the awful experience I had with advance 1 but honestly...

This is one of the best sonic games out there! The controls feel silky smooth, the level design is entirely focused on sleep, the level design is Not complete bullshit and the punishment for dying doesn't feel as severe as the advance 1.

It does a really fast sonic game extremely well without relying on boost mechanics, I'm genuinely impressed!

Another game I was dreading with how often I heard about its "dimps" level design, and... another one I was pleasantly surprised with!

The level design certainly feels more bullshit than advance 2, but NOWHERE near the level of advance 1.

The character pairing mechanics are incredibly cute and fun to mess around with, the mixture of speed and traditional platforming reminds me of sonic 3 in the best ways, it's just a very good 2d sonic game!

Why they made the final level entirely an auto scroller, and the first level a menagerie of crushers and bottomless pits tho is just beyond me, that by itself docks half a star.

I'm sure this was incredibly fun in multiplayer battles but man, the singleplayer campaign is so cheesable and you can beat most battles just button mashing.

The fact it's stuck on GBA as well makes the possibility of it being a game you play with others in the modern day really slim, so I'm not taking into account the possibility of competitive play into my review.

This is one of the best sonic games ever made, period.

Amazing music, amazing visuals, amazing community, and of course, absolutely stellar gameplay.

The amount of speed you feel, and how Earned it feels, when you're playing well in this game, is genuinely unmatched, it's so full of depth and an absolute blast once you master it.

A 4.5 would be a more fair rating but by god do I also have a lot of memories for this one... nostalgia pushes it to a perfect score.

Some of the best visuals and music from the 16-bit generation accompanied by some very competent platformer gameplay!

Ristar himself is a character with near-endless possibilities on gameplay ideas you can add to him, I wish Sega would give him the love he deserves!

A very solid beginning to my absolute favourite game franchise! With some questionable level design at points... I had fun with it nonetheless!
