Kirby Marathon

Decided to engage myself in a Kirby marathon 2 years ago, after playing Forgotten Land.
It was the occasion for me to discover all the games pre-DS era, and to gain a new vision on the more recent entries in the franchise.

Before playing this I had this bias of thinking Kirby games where generally very good yet all kinda the same ; but Forgotten Land proved me wrong. This game felt very memorable to me, and it made me want to learn more about the franchise.
The switch to 3D doesn't add much but it's very well executed, and I think it represents the desire to try some new things after Star Allies.
Tons of ideas, lots of fun, beautiful and colorful world, and a very generous game overall ! I felt like a kid again.
Very short and very simple, but that was the point of this game. I guess it's a bit weird now that Kirby is such a big name but this was probably a nice project when it came out.
All the foundations of every Kirby game are already here, and it's one of the most beautiful games of the NES.
Timeless.
Pleasantly surprised by the difficulty.
I also really appreciate the work put into our 3 new friends and each of them having unique variations of every ability.
Very generous ! I like how they tried different structures for every adventure, it feels like the most experimental game in a good way.
Great Cave Offensive as a standalone might be one of my favorite Kirby !
Not too fan of the pre-rendered backgrounds tho.
Gorgeous game once again ! (reminding me of Yoshi's Island, in the way that it emulates traditional drawing textures in pixelart)
Each level having it's own little sidequest is nice.
Too bad Kirby's on soap, feels like playing Luigi.
Dont' know if it's my emulator or just going from 2 to 3D, but the game felt very slow.
Other than that, it has a strong identity.
Combining powers is really fun, but it can be a bit tedious to travel between levels to get the correct combination for a specific cristal shard.
GBA feels great, soundtrack and pixelart is really clean ; but it sometimes feels less impressive than the original.
They really did a full open-world before it was cool.
I bet it was fun to play with friends if you got this game as a kid, but playing solo it feels weird to still have the other 3 kirbys bothering you or just getting lost, especially when you really need to be 4 for, like, 2 specific puzzles.
My first kirby game, and a beloved piece of my childhood.
It's a bit too classic, and playing it now I realize how much music and sprites are taken from the GBA games.
Still, made me super nostalgic.

Localization fun fact : it's called "Squeak Squad" in America, but "Mouse Attack" in Europe. Despite that, they didn't change "Mass Attack" 's name when it came out a few years later haha
I think I enjoyed it even more than the original.
Even more generous !! Galacta Knight's big debut !
Very sweet and chill, obviously visually flawless.
Haven't played this since I was a kid, seeing it and hearing the soundtrack hit me hard, it all feels so soft.
(Not really a Kirby game)
It alternates between being super fun and super frustrating if you try to get 100%. Only game I didn't feel like finishing.
I really like the chara-designs tho
Was wondering why they made a remake of this one, of all games. Answer's simple : it's excellent !
While it's stays pretty classic, level design is so on point here ; Super abilities sequences, and little challenges are really fun.
Unfortunately the following games will depend on this one a bit too much.
I like how Magolor kinda became the mascot of the modern Kirby era tho haha
(I can listen to "C-R-O-W-N-E-D" for hours)

Localization fun fact : "Return to Dream Land" is called "Adventure Wii" in Europe, thus refering to 2 completely different games !
A bit too similar to Return to Dream Land imo, although the Hypernova is a fun idea.
They did try to actually use the 3D of the 3DS a bit.
The shadow of Return to Dream Land starts to dissipate a bit, and the robot gameplay is just so satisfying and exciting, it's probably one of the most simplistically fun Kirby games.
The final boss is a crazy spectacle.
While I agree that it's probably one of the weakest games (the allies gimmick is really not the best, they're visually cumbersome and just play instead of you), I still had fun and I think some levels are memorable.
It's more of an anniversary game, and I think it's a pretty nice celebration of a pretty nice series :)
