One of the most iconic games of all time and for good reason. Doing what A Link to the Past did with its predecessor on the NES, Super Metroid took all of the ideas from the NES Metroid and ran. Iconic music, level design, bosses and atmosphere make this game the definitive 2D Metroid title and the template for many metroidvania games for many years to come.

Making a 2D game in the modern age of gaming requires a particular amount of finesse and impressive level design in order to compete with other genres. There is no doubt that there has been everything but a shortage of metroidvania games to go around in recent years, but Metroid Dread proves that Nintendo can still make a 2D Metroid, and a damn good one at that. Using the exploration and overwhelming sense of isolation (furthered by the horrifying EMMI enemies) that previous games like Super Metroid and Metroid Fusion had, along with numerous new combat and platforming mechanics, Metroid Dread feels like a well polished title and a love letter to fans of previous Metroid games.

What more can be said about an astonishingly good remake of what many believe to be the best survival horror game of all time. Incredibly satisfying and fun combat, terrifying and mysterious environments along with multiple secrets and collectibles make this one of my favorite games of all time. Fantastic and iconic boss fights. Multiple weapons to upgrade and obliterate your enemies with. Would highly recommend even to those who don't enjoy the survival horror genre.

A game that is remarkably shorter than the original but still very fun. Using the same exact engine and gameplay/combat from the Resident Evil 2 remake, the nemesis is back and as horrifying as ever. With great cinematic sequences involving the nemesis and a refined look into the inner workings of Raccoon city, this remake is suitable but is lacking in content.

An incredible reimagining of one of the most iconic games of all time. Resident Evil 2 takes what made the original RE games great and implements better combat, exploration, cutscenes and just about everything else you would want out of a modern survival horror game. A fantastic soundtrack, horrifying environments, strategic combat and resource management, and numerous free extra modes to play. Leon and Claire are back and better than ever.

A great start to a great franchise. Filled with multiple puzzles and extensive resource management. The gameplay is very intuitive and well designed. There are numerous strategies for defeating enemies, and the game will punish you for not tying up loose ends and completely killing each infected you come across.

Many will debate on whether or not this game is better than the second, but I think both games are great in their own right. MGS3 has the best gameplay between all three games, with multiple new mechanics being introduced. Being able to collect multiple camouflages and weapons to help in infiltrating enemy territory within a lush jungle area - combined with the fact that the subsistence version allows for a third person camera makes the gameplay easily the best of the three. An incredible story that starts the tale of the infamous Big Boss and a game that is impossible to forget.

An absolute masterpiece of a game with the most insane, mind boggling story twist ever seen in any form of media. Never before has a game made such a bold statement applicable to the real world about the usage of information technology. The iconic stealth action gameplay combined with an insanely in depth story and multiple fleshed out characters make this genuinely one of the best games ever made. What I have written here is still not enough to do this game justice.

This game is essentially MGS1 but made for the same hardware specifications as MGS2 (along with a lot of extra cutscenes). The start of the story of one of the most legendary video game characters of all time, this game is the definitive tactical-stealth experience. The techno-thriller and military themes in this game are strangely applicable to the real world and is supplemented by incredibly fun gameplay. Have not played the original version, but this version is still great.

A solid follow up to the second game with a much more linear approach. With the introduction of 3 controllable captains as opposed to 2, this game has multiple environmental puzzles that utilizes the series largest set of Pikmin types. Combat is not as much of a focus in this game as dungeons remain mostly absent. A very charming game with a comical story and fun gameplay.

An incredibly punishing but fun as hell game that is Nintendo's definitive RTS experience. Numerous dungeons and levels to explore. The combat from its predecessor was brought over along with new Pikmin types and intuitively designed bosses. While watching your entire army get crushed by the water wraith can be infuriating, the challenge is enough to make anyone want to tackle this game.

A very short but sweet game. The overall atmosphere of this game is deceptively calm despite the carnage that ensues when you send your Pikmin into battle. Can be finished in one sitting and is a very fun little game.

A very charming and iconic game brought back to life in fully remastered graphics. The remaster looks fantastic but adds very little extra content to the game (with the exception of some QOL changes). Gameplay is very streamlined and simple for an RPG.

The roguelike genre is one of my favorites, and this game takes the randomly generated fun of the genre and combines it with a bullet hell like none other. Filled with numerous side objectives, bosses, and unlockable characters/items, Enter The Gungeon has hundreds of hours of content to explore.

I never would've been able to fathom a VR game being this good. Before playing Half-Life: Alyx, VR games were a novelty to me - games I would play on a whim if I was bored or if my friends wanted to play. However, this game provides the experience that a full AAA title does and can certainly be considered the definitive VR experience. Seeing City 17 from Half Life come to life in VR felt like I was at an amusement park, and getting to explore the fully interactive environments made it even better. A technical marvel and one of the best games I have ever played.
