probably the best word to describe this game setting is "bold"
i mean...you arent a upstarting trainer but an ex-criminal! you already have two mons who are implied to have been with you for some time! you dont steal pokemon, you snatch em away from other trainers! alot of the npcs you meet are outlaws! so yeah pretty bold compared to the mainline series..or what im used to at least
the gameplay has been changed, in that it's always double battles. they pretty much throw you out there without holding your hand, which is interesting in some aspects, but caused me to stumble on a few areas (didnt know you could "pick a starter", didnt know timeflutes effects etc).
i have to give props to the designs/score as well. the designs is pretty bonkers (in a memorable way) and the different battle themes are dang solid.
i also have to highlight all the pokemon animations. decattys haughty walk, all the fish pokemon rising up like they're dead when fainting, jigglypuff turning flat, some examples that really stuck with me and just shows the amount of effort that went into making every pokemons animation unique. it's awsome, really.
the game has some frustrations tho. while the animations are cool theyre pretty drawn out and can make battles feel slow. this added with the pre-exp share all era makes grinding a pain the ass. having shadow pokemon appear during important battles also causes the action to come to a screeching halt, due to having me focus on catching the pokemon rather than beating the opponent. these frustrations , combined with how you can only save at designated spots, is what caused me to lose interest in the post game stuff.
all in all, a really cool take on what pokemon can be like, but due to gameplay decisions i dont really vibe with, a game im not interested in exploring more than once.

Yeah this slingshotted up to my top fave kirby game. Im impressed how natural it all felt having a proper 3d kirby.
Just a really enjoyable ride all around. Had a hard time putting the controller down bc i just wanted to keep going!
The levels, music, the power ups just kick alot of ass. I love the sideactivities you can fo as well.
If i had any minor complaints itd be the lack of a Try Again button for main stages. Esp if you screwed up a side mission and need to start over (felt odd also how treasure stages had one but not this...? Oh well)
But yeah. Just a really really good game that i would rec with all my heart. Think its the first kirby game i 100% bc i didnt want things to end haha

23/09/2023: cleared 3d world "main game". Gonna try post game stages
24/09/2023: gotten every star/stamp/gold flag why cant i unlock the final world
"you gotta play trough every stage with every character"(guy who has played solo 😨)
edit: NVM apperently you dont need them? Maybe im missing smth
25/09/2023: FINISHED champions road. dont ask how many lives i lost
26/09/2023: bowsers fury DONE 100%. Review time.
alot i liked about this one! fun stages, fun use of the new cat power up, stellar controls as always when it comes to mario. not my all time fave mario game but its pretty up there!
bowsers fury feels like a really intresting experiment. it felt like a perfect length and the gameplay loop didnt feel repetive as i feared it to be! super curious how its gonna be implemented in the future

Pretty solid but doesnt really stand out on its own compared to return to dreamland imo since theyre pretty similiar gameplay wise (that doesnt necassarily have to be a bad thing tho)
Also weird placed insertion of plot at the VERY end. The final boss(es) are real cool tho

The story isnt exactly smth to write home about (i do admire kirbys determination on having a good snack) but i think the gameplay here was the most smoothest its been ever since i went to the behinning! The touch screen isnt super utlized but i dont mind since its pretty simple, esp bc it migrates my frustration of having the one hit-->lose ability by keeping a backup in check lol. Also keeping track of what stuff youve missed is so much easier now compared to amazing mirror.
So yeah. One of my top fave kirby games so far alongside dreamland 3/return to dreamland. Time for the 3ds era...

This game was...alright. didnt particulary had much of an impact that i had hoped it would like with oxenfree. more leaning into dark comedy, which were hits and misses for me.
The strongest part was the atmosphere. A neat take on hell and some fun designs here and there. The building sets and the overlooking spots were super cool.
lola and milo are a fun duo, some of the dialouge felt a tad bit rambly but not too out of place really.
The auto save system kinda sucked tho. Sometimes it wouldnt save even if I was in an entirely new area and i kinda wished to just turn it off so i could manual save.
I was debating trying for a second playtrough too see the other endings but i didnt really feel like replaying the whole thing just to see it.

it's always pretty cool to go back to a series starting point just to see how it's been evolving in time. i had a blast just going ""oh wow they kept that huh" " Oh so THATS where that came from..dang" and so forth
in any case the meta knight boss fight and the usage of past levels in monochrome were some pretty awsome moments
