The Dubious List of Games I've Cried To
Onion chopping squad wya. not in any particular order, just grouped series together
i was a kid/teen for most of these. games have to work harder to get something out of me nowadays unfortunately. thankfully shoddy shit from 20 years ago brings back some raw childhood memories that i can cry over instead. going to sell my kid/teen self out to internet strangers now
anything without a note just means i couldnt think of anything worthwhile i could say. honourary mentions for steins;gate and clannad which i would've included, but my feelings for those are more associated with the anime for them (also i havent even played clannad).

im convinced no other video game has the power to destroy me as much as this one even on replay. its also not fair because i managed to play it as a kid so i have that attachment too

ace attorney is one of my favourite series of all time. im unbelievably glad it became a part of my life at a very young age. i was like, 9 or 10, and had an r4. i remember looking up cool ds games and found some gamefaqs thread talking about ace attorney. thank you random forum poster for changing my life. bring back lana you cowards
justice for all was apparently written in only 3 and a half months. and yet Farewell, My Turnabout still gives me shivers over a decade later. that shit was so intense that even franziska cried at the end. and if shes crying i sure as hell am
this is my favourite ace attorney game still. "fragrance of dark coffee" is perfect. the ending is perfect. thank you for everything takumi
case 3 was unexpectedly raw for me. a certain twist in case 5 also hit hard. i still love the series after the original trilogy so only seeing this one may be an eyebrow raise, but this one goes more in on cutting those onions

then there's this one. p3/4 were (still are, some of at least) my favourite games ever back then, and the wait for this was excruciating. then i had exams when it actually did come out, so when i finally did get to play it, i was in tears from it already being over
The final boss made me cry :)
some key things i'll note: this and SA1 were the first games I was ever obsessed with. I have vivid memories as an 8yo of running up this one really long street I had on the way to school, thinking about the boss arena for the last Sonic vs Shadow fight, pretending I was Sonic. The ending and that last shot of the ARK orbiting the Earth was too much for kid me. Still an unexpectedly raw shot tbh
Man I'll come out and say it. I have no attachment to this series. I only played Damacy like last year. I'm also not as big on it as everyone else (it's still good tho).
"Roll Me In" is the single best piece of VGM ever composed. Not hyperbole. I've been consistent with this opinion for a bit now. It's not getting changed. Every fucking second of that song makes me feel like 10 different things.

the crystal stars theme made me cry. then i listened to it 30 more times because i sucked at video games
kid me was not ready for the second half of ch7 through to the end
im eternally thankful i played this before it blew up because the genocide fight with sans, easily the most emotional moment in the game, also ended up being the most memed. it's ok because i still cried to the 5 year anniversary concert
ecruteak/cianwood, national park and the credits themes are borderline unlistenable. i didnt think it was possible to load fucking GAMEBOY music with that much emotion.
14yo me was caught off-guard. in hindsight im still pretty fond of it
grown cold on this series over the years. but that last puzzle is still pretty fucking great!
