💩💩💩 Most Disappointing Ranking

A ranking of games that arent necessarily /bad/ (tho some are) but of games that are way worse than they should have been to me. Letdowns of their franchises, victims of hype, all things disappointing. Theres no greater structure behind the scenes here, these games just suck more than expected.

A game that "got off on the wrong foot", or atleast thats what I think everybody convinced themselves of at the time. This game ran on promises, but 10 years later its clear there was never any real vision for the game. Destiny 1 gets to more or less remain fixed in time, never growing more disappointing itself - but my regards for it diminish as the promise it represented becomes more and more unrealized.

The reception this game got felt like a minor madness to me. Hundreds of hours of what? Exploration? Exploring and finding what? Empty space? Korok seeds? A shrine consisting of maybe 10 minutes worth of puzzle solving? Oh but its got this rich sandbox…. does it? You can do like 1 or 2 cool lil tricks with it…. and now you use those 1 or 2 tricks to cheese 90% of every situation you encounter. Sure, theres some fun here - but Greatest Game Of All Time fun?? This is the most "Only Okay" game made in recent memory.

automata hurts but i def relate to a lot of these. notably botw, sw/sh, xenoblade x, life is strange 2 and zero time dilemma

I think, despite my best efforts, this list will always be slightly unfair to games, cuz "Expectations" are something external to the games themselves. In a world where Automata wasnt getting GOTY noms and awards, Id probably have nothing but compliments for it compared to the rest of the Nier/Drakengard series.

But thank you for being the rare Sane Zero Escape Fan.

I had high hopes that I was in for a good time but then I lost control of my computer and had to transfer 10k worth of ETH to have all my accounts released back to me. What a let down.
