Top games of 2023

List ranked from worst to best.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat
Discussed this a bit in my review but this game was a tedious slog. Nothing about this game made me feel any emotion.

I could've have been painting my walls and that would of been more fun than this game.

Diablo IV
Diablo IV
I came into Diablo IV late. By the time I joined in D4 had gone under some updates that nerfed a lot of the playable classes and made enemies extremely tanky. Me and my mate were both constantly fighting an uphill battle against the mechanics of the game, and it made it really hard to love this game.

32

SuperHot
SuperHot
Superhot was a fun little game to play in-between a game that you've sunk your time into. Love the combat but this game has no lasting impact besides its unique gameplay.

31

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun
Really uninspired boomershooter.

30

Heretic
Heretic
Heretic is an interesting setting but it isn't fun or interesting game. Its a doom clone at its worse. Only redeeming factors are its locations and setting.

29

Resident Evil 6
Resident Evil 6
Resi 6 has so many issues from gameplay, level design, story and voice acting. But this game still was semi fun purely because of how hilarious it was to experience this b movie ass game. Best play this with a friend for a better experience.

28

Starfield
Starfield
Starfield is a dated game that has taken so many steps back from its major successes like skyrim, fallout 3 & 4, morrowind etc.

Starfield needed to innovate but it stagnated.

27

Postal
Postal
See my review for my thoughts.

26

Yakuza Kiwami 2
Yakuza Kiwami 2
Combat is great, game looks fucking gorgeous, side content is hilarious as fuck but man the story is dull as dog shit. Was confused half the time and really didn't care for the overall conflict of the game.

25

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
CS has its moments but it's a victim of having too much of a good thing. In SOC you had very few moments fighting other stalkers and was mainly immersed in its tone and its creepy eastern European survival horror game with occasional side stuff like fighting other factions. But the issue with CS is that the game is predominately fighting other factions. Which is fun but after while leaves you wanting something else.

24

Star Wars: Dark Forces
Star Wars: Dark Forces
Amazing looking Star Wars for the time game but like all doom clones it just stuck to that formula like a fly on shit.

23

Marvel's Spider-Man 2
Marvel's Spider-Man 2
SM2 was a fun time. Story wasn't as impactful as SM1 and characters like Miles was left by the wayside and wasn't as interesting.

22

Metal Gear Solid
Metal Gear Solid
Yes MGS is a classic, Yes the game has memorable characters and story, Yes this game changed everything. BUT playing in 2023 I wasn't really wowed by this. Gameplay was fun and more arcadey than stealth. Also probably needed to play this emulated because the gog version was kinda not good and did effect my enjoyment.

21

Pathologic 2
Pathologic 2
Since its Backloggd I am already going to be chastised for not having this game be my number 1. This game was incredibly unique and endlessly fascinating, but it was painful to play. I get that's the intended purpose, but it just caused lots of soft locking and annoying trial and error gameplay. I could see myself playing this game again with the knowledge that I have but it will be a long time before I do that again.

20

Valiant Hearts: The Great War
Valiant Hearts: The Great War
Not much to say that this game was really sad and it reminded me lots of the movie Yellow Submarine.

19

Diablo II: Resurrected
Diablo II: Resurrected
Diablo II is an amazing game. Wished I played this on a higher difficulty and tried out a different class.

18

Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut
Ghost of Tsushima: Director's Cut
Everything about this game rocks fucking hard. But it's got ubisoft game design structure and can be a huge detriment. Might need to revisit this game on a harder difficulty.

17

Dredge
Dredge
This has some really good fishing gameplay going on. I play this to upgrade my boat and to fish. Anything else is irrelevant.

16

Severed Steel
Severed Steel
This game has some of the best shooting galleries in the past few years. Loads of fun and has more lasting impact then superhot.

15

PowerWash Simulator
PowerWash Simulator
This game is the best thing to do when you're just chilling out. It was a nice time to just throw on some music or listen to a podcast.

14

Hexen: Beyond Heretic
Hexen: Beyond Heretic
A doom clone that changes the mold for FPS shooters of the mid 90s. Changes its gameplay to be more melee focused and added more complexity to it level design. It can be confusing but its a welcomed improved change than what was happening in Heretic.

13

Lethal Company
Lethal Company
I've made some memories from this game. Not only is this game fucking scary but it's also the funniest fucking game with friends. The reactions I get from the lads will be with me til I'm dead.

12

Faith: The Unholy Trinity
Faith: The Unholy Trinity
Faith was a really creepy and surreal game. Loved the cutscenes and the whole vibe this game has. Gameplay isn't the best but I think the gameplay for faith is entirely utilitarian. Whereas the story and mystery is why you play faith.

11

Diablo
Diablo
D1 is a fantastic and short ARPG. This game just rocks due to its sheer amount of fun I had fighting everything (except the archer goatmen, they can fuck right off XD).

10

RoboCop: Rogue City
RoboCop: Rogue City
You can pick people and throw them in the air. You can also shoot guys in the dick and they react. This honestly should be everyone's game of the year.

9

Persona 5 Royal
Persona 5 Royal
No joke I had to work on this game for almost 2 years. I kept putting this game down because of the sheer amount of content this game has. Plus, I had to get acquainted with the mechanics each time I was away from playing this game.

Surprisingly wasn't a huge fan of the royal sections and felt it was a bit bloated. I liked the original finale more because it wrapped up everyone's arcs nice and neat. But the game kept going.

That being said its really fantastic this game. Loved all the character stuff, combat, mini games and side quests. P4G still holds the title of my fav persona game but P5R is a solid game and completely worth your time.

8

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade
Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade
A really solid action RPG with amazing story moments and great characters.

7

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Man...........

6

Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
CDPR just knows how to punch me in the feelings. This expansion was super depressing and engaging. Loved all the combat sections, characters, setting and side content.

5

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - Game of the Year Edition
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind - Game of the Year Edition
I used to laugh at people who always said morrowind was superior and that all the other elder scrolls pails in comparision. Now I don't laugh because I've become one of those nerds that loves this game to no end.

But it makes me more depressed how far Bethesda has fallen from how amazing this was.

4

Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil 4
Resi 4 remake somehow was even better than its original counterpart. Like how did they make this so much better.

Man..............

3

Dead Space
Dead Space
Played this loads of times when it launched. Got the full 100% completion and fuck me this was great.

Please don't mess up a remake of 2.

2

System Shock
System Shock
I don't know if I can say much more than this was amazing.
