The best Smash game, and everyone knows it. Fuck Nintendo.
The only thing that makes this situation less disgusting than Mario Royale is that they didn't steal the game's ideas after they manipulated Twitch into shutting it down. Or maybe it's more disgusting because that means they haven't yet made a Smash game which is anywhere near as good.

It's honestly astounding how far McLeodGaming has come after releasing this piece of shit. I hate to say that, because the game was a big part of my childhood and probably yours too, but it ages worse with each passing day.
Even the atrocity that is Nick All-Star Brawl has polished controls and physics.

I won’t compare this to Nick All-Star Brawl yet because that game’s sequel is still on the way… but it’s better than Smash Ultimate.
I’m not joking. Singleplayer content matters.

The last good Smash game. Everyone rightfully sings their praises for Smash Run, but I also think that the game has the best implementation of Classic Mode, as well as a better stage lineup than Wii U.
Seriously, why the fuck did Ultimate bring back Pac-Land instead of Pac-Maze?

This would be the best game in the series by an enormous landslide, if only the gameplay wasn't inexcusably terrible.

Adventure Mode is overrated as hell, becoming more of a fixed Classic Mode after the Planet Zebes stage.
But it's fucking Melee, still standing as the peak of the series.

Best presentation in the series by far, but the content leaves a lot to be desired. When ranking the Smash games, I would rather just ignore this one because it doesn't compare to later installments but also isn't necessarily bad.

I think I need to spend more time with this game, but right now I feel validated in having forgotten about it after my childhood. I see good things in it, but clicking with the gameplay is a hard process.

I wish I could give this game 5 stars because - at least in terms of presentation - it's the hardest that Mario has ever gone and probably will ever go.
But the controls don't feel quite as good as the other 3D installments, and Nintendo just had to shove in waggling gimmicks for their shiny new waggling console.

For a mobile game, this is more addicting than I would like to admit.

I enjoyed myself quite a bit when this first came out, being my introduction to team-based multiplayer shooters.
But then I discovered Team Fortress 2. And then I grew the hindsight to realize how this game did irreparable damage to the series. I miss the singleplayer storyline of -1 and Zero so much, you guys have no idea.

The story is everything I could have wanted out of a sequel to -1.
The gameplay is everything I didn't want out of a sequel to -1.

I had to go well into adulthood to realize it, but this is the best official Sonic game. Usually something goes wrong with the series, whether it's bad controls, bad level design, bad writing or (rarely) bad music. There is nothing bad about this.
But is it the best Sonic game, period? I'll come back to that question when Dr. Robotnik's Ring Racers is released.

An easy 5 stars, I probably don't have to explain myself at this point.

It's quite remarkable how making some tweaks to the gameplay and technical aspects, with little-to-no changes in the level design, turn this from one of the worst Sonic games to one of the best Sonic games.
