I know what to say but if I say it it’s going to end with SMBW and SMB3 fans coming together to destroy my home and everything I love

There's not much I can say that hasn't been said differently and a billion times over by virtually everyone else so at least play this at some point in your life and experience the whimsical joy of child-like wonder and some bombass platforming

This game’s level design has genuinely no right to be going as hard as it does for the era it came out and then still hold up now. As much praise as it gets, I still don’t feel like this one gets enough of it.

Its-a me, Mario! I run and jump and throw things around with my friends, wahoo!

Does the Devil know what it’s like to feel the pain and suffering of the mortal coil? To bleed the same way as us? To suffer the anguish of existence? Does he sleep and have the same nightmares as us? Can he still be the Devil if he doesn’t know these things at all?

It'sa me, Mario! I run and jump around to save the princess, wahoo!

It still has a similar problem that I had with the original where it gets stupid difficult for no reason towards the end but the rest of game is a step up and I can swing my whip like a dumbass so everything works out like God intended

thank god we’re far past the point of NES level design because man is the game a neat lil experience until stage 14 and onward where the devs remembered the game is only 30 minutes long so they gotta inflate the playtime by throwing a bunch of stupid shit at you that slow ass Simon Belmont can’t avoid

Had to revisit this for October and to compare it with RE4 2023, and it’s still a hood classic

Still can’t believe they had adaptive difficulty in a game like this from so long ago, Capcom is just a different beast out here

A follow-up to my last review

Update: They did not.

To the surprise of no one, Sonic Team found a way to fuck up their momentum again. I think I've realized during my post-06 marathon that their biggest problem is they overcorrect everything involving the criticisms they receive and it ends up doing far more damage to their games than fix. Having new playable characters (although the time you spend with them is short), flashy sequences, and brief moments of good ideas is cool, but having insane difficult spikes out of nowhere with some involving level design that look like it was made by a 10-year-old's first level creator idea is not the way to go about addressing the game's difficulty. So much of Frontiers' strengths gets stripped away and its flaws is out in full display because Sonic Team still can't seem to figure out how to do a challenging game without it devolving into bad level design and artificial bullshit. The final boss really doesn't help when the game does the usual thing Sonic games tend to do where it will just be extremely vague on what to do so you're just bashing your head at a wall for however long you're at it. Just an overall underwhelming experience and a mess, man.

Sonic Team did the unthinkable and make a competent video game! Really fun movement, boss fights, great music, and slick platforming even with some of the game's jank and a lot of the sandbox being just "SEGA HIRE this man". Hoping they maintain the momentum in the Final Horizon update

The main game is great and improves on the first game a lot but the unorthodox post-game kinda messes with the flow of it when the RNG cave difficulty can range from "challenging but fun" to "do you know what suffering is?"

Sucks because there's (some) good ideas for some of the subfloors, but the randomization of the caves basically leaves everything up to God on if the execution will be good or will you just cheese your way out the floor so you don't end up losing 75% of your squad because of bad enemy or hazard placement. I just hope Pikmin 4 doesn't have this bad of a problem with how it handles caves/dungeons.

P4G is a great game when you don’t have a bozo in your ear misinterpreting the story and themes of Kanji and Naoto

With that being said tho fuck Yosuke

It has decent combat which feels like a step down from 1 & 2 and the game does get ambitious (maybe a bit too ambitious for what it wants to do) but imagine if Devil May Cry 3 had the plot of 5 and none of its ideas were initially planned but also there's multiverse shit now but the most you get out of it is what if there was a one-note Brazilian Dante

yeah that's basically this game's plot and the ending sucks straight ass
