The Best Games

Note that this is a hypothetical world where Glover didn't exist, as that will always be #1.

(Redoing this for Last Raven)

I like the cool robot game.
A true miracle game. Delivers a dense world that fits thematically with its core mechanic, which is in itself a brilliant way to ensure mastery of puzzles and combat.
Looking back, what really sticks out about this game to me is that despite how silly and goofy it is, it treats its characters with a level of care that few stories would ever do. It's also just an incredible detective game.
The quintessential action platformer. Backflips are cool.
While many indie games ride the coattails of masterpieces, this game fully realizes the potential of a mechanic from a semi-obscure NES game while also carving out its own identity.
"This is not your fault, but Ours for believing in you."

Duke Nukem has nothing on Caleb.
A little more conventional than some of the earlier games in the series, but it has some of the greatest mechanics and level design of any game ever.
Don't even have a joke about this, it's just an excellent game.
No extraneous systems, everything works to make an incredible experience. Game could've been shorter though.
Imagine if Solo: A Star Wars Story was a masterpiece, and realize that's basically what this game is.
Awesome in pretty much every way, but falls into the somewhat prevalent pitfall of 2D Platformers basically becoming rhythm games without that genre's perks.

Valve games are usually tech demos, but they're the best tech demos I've played.
Probably need to replay this one, but I loved it when I first played it.

15

The greatest falling block game.
A game that's completely dedicated to being simply cool, and it succeeds in pretty much every way. (The castle is kinda boring tho)
The game still just has a great sense of adventure. I imagine this was the greatest game ever when it first released.
Quite possibly the first console game with actually great characters.
I'd say it's sad that this is the peak of the series decades later, but even if the series was still good and relevant this would still probably be the peak.
Lives up to the title. Feels more like a true world than any other Mario game.
I miss when people made games that are fun and cool.
This is like if someone made a coffee maker held together by duct tape, but somehow the coffee is shot out at sonic speed and burns holes through concrete.
A straightforward sequel done well.
Crazy how 'psyche up' instantly makes the gameplay so much more engaging.
Classical tragedy where society shuns the Sigma and won't let him live happily.
I still love spending an hour building a war machine and then having it immediately wiped out in combat.
Why do the people scream when being rolled up if they like it? 1/10
Still wild that Donkey Kong is only playable in one of the original DKC games.
Could portray its story a little better, but this is still a classic Indie game.
Going from this to Infinite is one of the biggest drops in quality I've seen in any series.
An indie game with a message that is also a good game.
Parrying is epic.
The Mario game that has a noose hanging in the starting town.
The best game about scaling a castle and jumping into magical paintings.
The second best game about scaling a castle and jumping into magical paintings.
Really the Robot is only on one wheel, so this is false advertising.

Yeah pretty much that when it comes to Dragon Quest VIII. As much as there are good qualities for the entire series, combat honestly took too long to be enjoyable from start to end. Even the better, older games reach a point where combat gets pretty exhausting and monotonous. Why they replaced psyche up with the pep system I will never understand.

@AlphaOne2 Yeah, I really need to review some of the Dragon Quest games because I think there's a lot to be said on some of the games. Maybe once I play Dragon Quest V I'll do a review.
