ok nope i remembered why I hate this game.
the aliens are so ridiculously overpowered that you don't stand a fucking chance.
THIS IS COMING FROM SOMEONE WHO ENJOYS FUCKING LONG WAR ON IRONMAN HARD MODE.
One of the things I enjoy about XCOM is that its hard, bull shit at times, but overall, when someone dies, most of the time it is your fault, and it FEELS like it is YOUR fault.
XCOM 2 decides that players should not learn from their mistakes because their mistakes aren't what got their units killed.
Instead, they give you:
-Ridiculously tight turn limits where in order to beat the clock you essentially just have to ignore any enemy and hope that they don't hit you with their overwatch
-Status effects that are annoying and often times unavoidable (poison now just damages you every turn instead of every action, meaning that skillful plays with poisoned soldiers aren't possible anymore).
-Melee units who either miss or hit and render your unit unconcious, in other words, kill your unit except if you win they're alive at the end. also, the units that can do this have ridiculous run speed.
-Vipers, the ex-thinmen who no longer explode into poison upon death, but can grab you and then strangle you. from a mile away.
and of course: Rulers.
a gripe with a game shouldn't require an entire segment to itself.
Rulers are elite enemies who show up from time to time.
there are only a couple of them, they do not heal ever (but have a ton of health), and after a bit they'll leave to fight another day.
a concept which is not that bad, until...
RULER REACTION
Rulers get a free action EVERY TIME YOU TAKE AN ACTION.
Reminder that these are elites, who of course do a lot of damage too.
so you can move a unit and then the ruler will instakill it.
very fun game mechanic.
i hate this fucking game
