Every Game I Beat in 2023 (Chronological)

Nothing here!

I didn't mean to complete this game, I just kept playing it while on Discord calls and eventually the credits showed up. The map in this is secretly better than the map in the first game.

It's like a cross between the best of Gunstar Heroes and Dynamite Headdy. Seriously one of the best platformers I've ever played.
I have a ton of thoughts about this game, far too many for this note. It's an amazing game that doesn't know how to properly utilize what makes it so good. The first third is awesome, the last two are a mixed bag. I think I like the idea of JSRF better than JSRF itself.
Played this on a complete whim after modding my PS2. Oomfie shmup. A relic of the most interesting era of SNK.
Bought this back in 2019 but didn't get to the end of game until now. Solid Metroidvania, everything this team does is incredible.
The best artstyle in any Sonic game, bar none.
I was surprised that I didn't like this one as much as I thought I would. A solid 3D platformer but really nothing special. I love the apes though.
I love the world of this game and the funny little characters that inhabit it. I will bend Cloud Strife down on a table and beat him to death with a lampshade.
Had a lot of fun playing this with my friends. It isn't that great of a fighting game outside of that though. Featuring Taiga from the Toradora series.
One of the four games that still work on my Neo Geo Pocket Color. Really cute fighting game, makes me want to check out the rest of the Fatal Fury series.

(Stand in for "Sonic Speed Simulator)
jumbo josh
One of the four games that still work on my Neo Geo Pocket Color. I loved this a lot, beautiful spritework and surprisingly fantastic gameplay. Super cinematic for a 8-bit portable game.
I thought I'd love this but it's held back by a lot of bullshit gameplay. Absolutely loved the premise and feel of it though.
For the time before I played Mario Wonder and replaced World this year, I thought this might be my favorite 2D Mario. Unfortunately, that isn't the case. It's still a really fantastic time though. It makes me upset to see people disregard everything this game does just because of the precieved transgressions of it's sequels. It's awesome. The Power Of Joy And Happiness Ass Video Game.
Mario Kart if it was awesome
I played Kiwami 1 & 2 later on this year, but back in June in this was my first ever Yakuza game. There are like a hundred other ones after this one that aren't remakes, so I don't feel confident placing this as my favorite in the series yet. But for what it's worth, this is the single best dollar value ($5) I have ever gotten from any video game.
They call me Kamui Uehara the way everyone wanna be me.

If I had played this before Moon or Nier 2010 this would've occupied their spots in my favorite games ever made.
I love my friends :)
I don't like this as much as most of the other 2D Sonics, but it's still a competent and cute platformer. Playable Amy is awesome!!!
This kept me sane during a long haul trip. It's basically Super Mario 64 but Cuter but Easy Mode. New levels are nice but feel a bit too barren. The costumes you can give Cream are a really nice touch.
I was so sick while playing this that I can't remember anything about it. The visuals in this are kinda weird and I'm not sure if I like them very much. It's Panel de Pon so it's good though!
Klonoa you better stop dissin em, they're gonna kill you.

Very PlayStation Platformer. The voice jumble made me happy. Effortlessly perfect.
Cute-ass 3D platformer. I enjoy it for what it is. 🐤🐤🐤
Unironically one of the better Mario platformers I've played. If you aren't rocking with Super Princess Peach I'm not rocking with you.
Played this on a bugged out Saturn emulator. Insane person video game (positive), one of the most creative fighters I've played. I'd love to revisit it if I get a chance to play with someone else again.
Nice vibes. Minimalistic fighter. Baseball Girl.

What can I say, it's more Toree. 🐤🐤🐤
Played this split up over three months. Going through it so disjointed isn't the ideal way to No More Heroes imo but I was glad to finally replay it regardless. Still one of my favorite games I've ever played.
I really wanted to like this one, but unfortunately I just was not a fan. Cute graphics and a nice premise but mind-grating gameplay. It's an adaptation of the shitty arcade game from Moon into a full video game. It's legitimately flat-out broken at points. This isnt even throwing up the absurdly racist character design that is just here for some reason???? It's no "moon: Remix RPG Adventure".
One of the best Switch exclusives, best platformers, and best Kirby games I've ever played. Going through this co-op was fantastic.
I played this because I wanted to save the Castlevanias I was super interested in for later, but it ended up being pretty great anyways. 🧛🧛🧛
I think this is much better than Super Castlevania IV in an aesthetic regard, but a step down with its gameplay. Really plays into being on the Genesis though. 🧛🧛🧛
You don't hate Super Mario Odyssey, you fear Super Mario Odyssey with it's lack of boundaries

I only played episode 3 & 4 for this playthrough. Arguebly, that should make me categorize this as "shelved" but I feel like this was a substantial playthrough. Episode 3 is great stuff, I think it's my favorite batch of Doom maps I've played so far. Episode 4 is inconsistent, to say the least. I liked the end of it much more than the beginning. Ultimately, I think I like Doom better now than when I first played it. It doesn't hold up as a modern FPS but its mechanics and design carve out their own niche.
Definitely not as great as the first Doom, but still pretty good. I hate pretty much every new enemy, more so because the levels don't apply them well and they end up feeling gimmicky. Level design can get really cheap in this one and rely on quick reflexes and luck rather than puzzle solving. It still carries enough of what made the first Doom special to be enjoyable though.

Not quite as good as Doom 1, a whole lot better than a lot of Doom 2. The aesthetics are on point here, in some ways I feel like they're a step above original Doom itself.
This game is all I wanted out of Mario when I was a kid. It makes me so happy to see the 2D series finally live up to what I could be. I still think there's improvements to be made, this game is missing some of what I think made Mario World so special, but it's nothing the next one can't fix.
Man fuck you
Why did they call the town "Silent Hill"? That's just asking for trouble.

I think that Survival Horror could be a genre I'd get really into. This is a "vibe game" at it's most brutal and hostile.
Everyone who says this game is better than Mario World is on fucking crack.
I think this was my first time playing the SNES version of this game to completion. It's really a classic, part of the small group of games from this era that really go toe-to-toe with what it's genre is doing today.

I mean, this isn't really that good of a game. It's definitely a fun game though, especially when you're going at it with friends. RPG Maker games are something I don't pay enough attention to considering how much they tend to be my shit, warts and all.
I played this over the original PS2 version of Yakuza because I owned it from a bundle. The reuse of locations and elements from Yakuza 0 can get pretty overbearing, but it still maintains enough of an identity outside of that to not get boring. Later games definitely clean things up story-wise but I think the campy-ness on display here is really charming. Majima Everywhere is a fun system until you can't move around for five goddamn seconds without getting jumped.
It's Panel de Pon. It's a good version of Panel de Pon. The art and music are really beautiful. I enjoyed it. Smile.
For a launch day Game Boy title, it's a fun little thing. The feel of it is super off from pretty much all of the later Mario stuff, I wasn't surprised at all to realize it predated 3. The soundtrack might actually be my favorite of the early Mario games, however nostalgia-clouded that may be. As a kid I used to play this occasionally on this unlicensed Game Boy multicart I got from a random game store.
