Games of the Years
My game of the year for each year from 1970 until forever. DLC, expansions, and patches are part of the game. No ports or remasters. Hacks are games. Revisions are... complicated. It depends.
Remakes must be so massively transformative that they win on their own merits, without just relying on what already made the original good.
Initial release date is the only one that counts, regardless of country. Early Access doesn't count as "released" and neither does being in alpha or beta.
1970-1985 gets a little more leeway when it comes to something being "released" because like... come on.
User-generated content counts, but only if it's consciously facilitated through things like mod support or level editors. Like remakes, sequels need to be transformative enough that they're not just taking credit for the efforts of their predecessors. This skews the list in favor of new IPs, and that suits me just fine.
