Troubled and Infamous Development Histories
A list of games that had troubled and infamous development histories. (Suggestions welcome)
This includes games that couldn’t get their footing with a developer/publisher, were rushed or unfinished, had abuse happening behind the scenes, were stuck in development hell, etc.

I'd suggest swapping Baldur's Gate 2 with Throne of Bhaal, tbh
although i dunno the whole situation, but TOB deserves to be included nontheless

@Raivin BG2 sort of serves as a stand in for both of them. During development BG2 ballooned so big into such an uncontrollable game due to them constantly adding new stuff to it and what not to the point it practically cannibalised itself. Also iirc there were issues with them trying to add things from the next D&D edition or something that caused issues in development? I don’t remember everything but I remember that the development for this game was rough.
@Raivin oh fuck, yeah you’re right I forgot about that game
pokemon swsh?
I also remembered Dragon Age 2, it was made in only a year and it shows
Oh wow I wasn’t aware p5 had this issue really interesting
Psychonauts 1 is notorious for being in development hell for so long that Microsoft (who were the original backing Double Fine) cut all funding so Double Fine had to find a new publisher at the last minute with Majesco who barely marketed of the game cause the game to bomb putting Double Fine in serious financial troubles and causing Majesco to leave the industry all togather.
Devil May Cry 2
Zelda Majora's Mask and Metroid Prime 1 SO belong in this list.
And also Sonic Heroes.
(I just realized Metroid Prime and Majora are already there lol)
Golden Sun might count because it was being worked on for the N64 and got split into 2 games for gba
panzer dragoon saga
dinosaur planet

Open Roads
Beyond Good and Evil 2, Project Zomboid, The Walking Dead: The Final Season, and Metroid Prime 4
Blaseball was a live game that was worked on while it was ongoing and had outages and long breaks multiple times
The original Secret of Mana comes to mind. The game was originally meant for the Nintendo Playstation, and when they had to cut a lot of the games content in order for it to fit on a SNES cartridge. On top of that, the English translation for the game was completed in a month so the game could be released for the holidays.
Mega Man X6
Mafia II
The Medium
D4: Dark Deams Don't Die and probably Swery in general
Shadows of the Damned

The Binding of Isaac Repentance, The Binding of Isaac Afterbirth Plus, The Legend of Bumbo
oh and binding of Isaac 2011
It's probably never getting released, but can we add Oddity?
The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon is an example I could think of.
Disco Elysium, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Kena all had notable bad development stories. If we start talking about problematic overtime the list will be extremely large.
Anthem notably had Terrible direction.
Alan Wake 2 was cancelled and reimagined

Heard that Kirby’s Return to Dreamland had a troubled development
I'm surprised that the original Shantae wasn't here, as not only was it pitched to be put on multiple different platforms, but when development on the Gameboy Color was completed, iirc Capcom withheld the game for like, 2 years? Once it released, the GBA was already out, and if not for the fact that the game was so well recieved, Shantae might've never received a sequel for the DSi.
Maybe Bloodborne demake since Sony shot it down the moment it was finished? Not fully sure if it fits the description though ofc
Postal 3?
If fangames count (considering Oddity is on the list) then Lisa: The Pointless is a potential addition since its story is still unfinished after nearly a whole decade. Breath of the Wild could also count since it was originally designed for the Wii U before Nintendo decided to make it a Switch launch title.
