Pokemon X was my first RPG
It really showed me what games could do, that they could create these amazing worlds for me to explore
Which is funny, cuz now I find the game boring as shit

Pokémon Blue, which was the second video game that I ever played when I first got it with my GBA SP.......... that's the only reason I have for why I played that first.

Pokémon Soul Silver, I remember playing the game with mostly just my starter (Cyndaquil) and the shiny Gyarados you get, and just using full restores and revives like crazy to win any battle with them lol.

following suit with UrLocalBanktoad, TTYD was definitely the first rpg that i played that i can remember that i'd say "yeah thats an rpg". i've always sorta been iffy on turn-based rpgs (i'm healing), but TTYD really drew me in and kept me despite that fact

The first JRPG I played was when I was extremely young with my Dad, it was Final Fantasy VIII. According to him, I would run around and fight and somehow over leveled him for the rest of the game, but it's funny, I've actually yet to play FFVIII myself while being a conscious adult, but it was my first JRPG. Now the JRPG that impacted me greatly is Dragon Quest 8. As a kid, Dragon Quest 8 presented to me that video Games can be incredibly vast, immersive, and rich with settings, characters, music, and storytelling. It wasn't until I was about 15 or 16 when I beat Dragon quest 8 for the first time, I remember this vividly because it was always one of those games I cherished deeply, but didn't realize how much it meant to me until I thought about it and finished the game for myself.

Pokemon Fire Red. One of the first games I owned on my Gameboy SP, don't remember ever finishing it though lol

my first was Pokemon Emerald, which I got with my DS lite when I was around 8 years old. but since that's not very interesting, I remember that soon after I got a Spiderwick Chronicles JRPG style game for ds... that felt like more of an RPG than Pokemon

lotta pokemon on here so let me add to it, my first RPG ever was Pokemon Pearl i'm pretty sure. and as much as i hate it now, i think the first one to have a "big impact" on me was probably Fire Emblem Fates, Conquest in particular

Pokémon sun was the first one I played and definitely the first one to impact me. I remember playing and beating it in a week when I had tonsillitis when I was 10.

It was either Pokémon Diamond or Pearl. But I quickly lost it and later got Platinum which I would say it my first real one.

I don't really play RPGs so the number has not drastically increased since then lol

I always thought it was cool as frick man, back when you had no standards or any idea that everyone on the internet hated it. If anything it still holds up just for having plenty of sonic characters interacting with each other and a story that isn't completely surface level. Must have finished it 2 or 3 times :)

Paper Mario (N64) was both my first game and RPG :)

My first JRPG was Xenoblade Chronicles 1 (the Wii version) in early 2021.
The Definitive Edition was already out at the time, but I only had access to the Wii. No Nintendo Switch...

It was the first video game I played along with Zelda Twilight Princess after playing only but one MMO for like 10 years 😂 So it was really memorable for me

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind or Pokemon Emerald, so let’s go with Morrowind as first, Emerald as first game to impact me in a big way

Shining Force II. Got it for Christmas with Super Thunder Blade from my parents. Couldn't even get out the first room initially so ignored it. Came back to it much later realising the sprite in the corner was stairs and never looked back.

My first ever non-Pokemon RPG was the mf 1994 Live-A-Live that wasn't even translated! I think it was on some weird online site that hosted old game roms and I thought Cube looked cool.

lol hell yeah. my first RPG was futzing around on my sister's copy of Pokemon Red (original gameboy, not Fire Red) before i really knew how to read, then the first one to hook me was Paper Mario TTYD.

Probably not too surprising of an answer but Pokemon Black was both my first ever RPG and the first ever game I truly managed to become enraptured in from start to well beyond the finish; its been my No. 1 most favourite game for nearly 13 years now and I don't see that changing any time soon XD

If we're talking about non-Pokemon RPGs then (as I imagine that series is a pretty common gateway into the genre), Octopath Traveler is the first 'traditional' RPG I really got into and, although I have yet to properly beat it as of now (that damn level grind got hands XD), its absolutely the one that opened my eyes to the broader perspective of what RPGs besides Pokemon could be :D

Dark Souls: Remastered was the first RPG to actually hook me
