The Giant Enemy Spider!
Well, what better way to start the month about spooky related things than talking about my greatest phobia ever!... Why do i do this to myself.
I do not necessarily despise spiders, in fact I do agree that they are a fantastic animal that serves a great part in the ecosystem, but let's just say that when I'm near one those positives thoughts vanish in favor of a flight or fight response that results in me flighting or just getting almost paralyzed out of fear... and hey, in videogames is no different! Listen, I gotta be honest, I was the kind of guy that used to get startled at the sounds of Spiders in fucking MINECRAFT... yeah, it's that bad...
Anyhow, I know very well I'm not alone in this fear (even if for most people is not as exaggerated, tho luckily in videogames is far more tolerable for me), and that results in wouldn't you know, being a very common topic of both videogames AND media in general! Giant spiders are one of the most common kind of enemies you can imagine in a fantasy setting, plus a perfect candidate for a horror setting, and so, this list will seek out to compile every instance of this being present in the videogame realm!
Also, most of these entries have been lifted from this lovely site that compiles games that have spiders in general, so it's worth taking a look!
Also also, check out @electrode's fantastic list about this topic, they let me use the entries that weren't already here, so check it out, it's very worth it and even goes into what are the specifics enemies in each game!
Keep in mind that they have to be giant spiders, that being at least close to half of the main character's size or more, so a taking into account that, every suggestion is more than welcomed as always, and let's get into it!

Surprised you forgot about Tarantox from Super Mario Galaxy.
@conman I'll say that adding giant spiders to a fighting game of all things is pretty mean, even if a bit funny XDDD. I'll add it right now, thank you so much!
@Drax True! It's kinda one of the most forgettable bosses from that game for me so that might be why I forgot about it, but you are absolutely right. To the list it goes, thank you! :D

It took me a second to find this but my extreme deja vu wouldn't let me ignore it; maybe it will provide some ideas. As I did there, I will also recommend the Earth Defense Force games as being particularly appropriate. Hope you make it through this arachnophile season unscathed! <3
@cowboyjosh Electrode themself shared the list on discord and gave me permission to add all the remaining games I didn't have, and it has indeed helped A TON, I can't thank them enough. I haven't added EDF yet tho, I'll add it right now! Thank you so much both for the suggestion and the words of encouragement! Hopefully I won't suffer too much when I play RE Remake XDDDD
Nightmare of Decay has a giant spider boss (as well as smaller enemy spiders). Never thought there were that many giant spiders out there!
@paqgamer_ Before doing the list I already imagined there would be A TON of game that would fit here, but I also didn't expect to be this many, it's kinda insane how common of a trope this is xD. And thank you so much for the suggestion! I'll add it right away! :D
a fear of spiders? someone clearly has not been informed of the horrors of aircraft related accidents. we're talking falling 30000 feet out of the sky, engine failure, broken rudders. a humble spider could never give you hypoxia
Webbed also fits this list!
Webbed also fits this list!
@moschidae Hah! Nice try there, but I have been gone through enough airplane trips for the information to be immune on me; hypoxia ain't got shit on spiders!... well, technically it does, but still...
Jokes aside, I've been looking into Webbed, and while it's a game where you do play as a spider, I couldn't find anything in regards of them being enemies or bosses; if there are and I just missed it, please do tell me and I'll add it, but for now the only thing I could find things about the spider main character and allies. Still, thank you so much!

thats what all the people who are in airplane accidents tend to say
i just assumed because it was a bug game youd face off with other spiders but maybe theres not 0: ill look into it later

@stale_cheeto Pretty much, to be honest xDDD
@seymourflux I mean, to each their own, I'm personality just happy they appear only in one of the games xDDDD. Seriously tho, thank you for the suggestion! I'll add it right away :DDD

Blood Omen 2: Legacy of Kain has big ol demon spiders https://legacyofkain.fandom.com/wiki/Demon_spiders_(enemies)
@DeltaWDunn I'll add all in a moment, thank you so much for all of these! :D
@Armorchompy To the list it goes then! Thank you! :)))

as for monster hunter, MH4, MH4U, MHGU, MHRise and MHR:Sunbreak all have spider monsters (nerscylla, shrouded nerscylla, rakna-kadaki and pyre rakna-kadaki). world doesn't have a spider monster, i checked the site you linked and it says there are spiders as endemic life and i couldn't confirm or deny that but those are just wildlife creatures that you can catch, not sure how strictly you're sticking to the title but they wouldn't count as 'enemy' spiders (wouldn't know if they're 'giant' either lol, tho i think most endemic life is pretty small)
Here's a couple more :)
Metroid Fusion - Yakuza
Thief: The Dark Project, Thief II: The Metal Age - Green Spider
Spelunky Classic, Spelunky HD, Spelunky 2 - Giant Spider)
Alien Soldier - Back Stringer
Lisa The First, Lisa - Marty Spider (Just a hallucination, idk if you count it)
A lot of Megami Tensei games - Tsuchigumo
HROT - Chairman of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia Klement Gottwald (And also a more normal one)
I'm not sure if non-enemies count but Squitter from Donkey Kong Country 2

@faea Yeah, it was a mistake on my part, the ones in MH World shouldn't count, I'll correct it then and add all the MH games you've said. Thank you so much for pointing it out and for all the suggestions! :D
@Armorchompy Yo, thank you so much for all of these, I'll add them in a moment. Again, thank you! :)

👍will let you know if i think of more
btw i'd probably list Megami Tensei II over SMT IV if you're (understandably) not gonna do all of them since that's the first game with Tsuchigumo

@Armorchompy Oh, great call! I'll change the game then, I normally wouldn't have a problem with putting several games of the same series, but this one seems to be a recurring foe, so I'd prefer to put the first game it appeared in. Thank you!
Do giant robot spiders count? If so, Namco scrolling shooter "Dangerous Seed" has a good one
Also Shelob has gotta be in a bunch of LOTR games right
@DJSCheddar They do count! A spider is a spider after all, I'll add it in a moment. I also looked into what games Shelob makes an appereance, and it seems that the Return of the King game and LEGO Lord of the Rings, so I'll include both of them and look into if there are any more. Thank you so much! :D
I must shill for my beloved King's Field IV :D! The first proper "boss" is a giant spider on a ceiling that shoots awful webbing making you move slow as heck for what feels like a minute straight, maybe more. Regardless, GIANT ENEMY SPIDER moment.
@Momoka A Giant Enemy Spider moment indeed! It fits perfectly on the list then, I'll add it in a moment. Thank you so much! :D
Just beat planet of lana, and I am pretty sure one of the monsters you run into is a giant spider
@The_Gaming_Dog12 Checked it and it seems to be a giant spider, so it counts. I'll add in a moment, thank you! :D
Fire Emblem: Sacred Stones features a high number of human-eating giant demon spiders :)
